Anyone have issues with buffering (HW transcoding)

I read a couple posts on here where people who have graphics cards that support HEVC encode/decode say they have buffering issues. QuickSync doesn’t seem to have this issue. My server’s CPU doesn’t have QuickSync so I put a Quadro P600 in it. It seems plenty powerful enough for 4K HEVC. Utilization sits at 10% but I still get the “This server isn’t powerful enough…” message with a lot of buffering.

Am I the only one having this issue or is this a known problem with GPU hardware acceleration with 4K HEVC?

4K H.264 transcodes fine and uses 40% GPU.

have you tried disabling subtitles?
at least thats the problem i have. As soon as i enable subtitles the hevc transcode is buffering (i.e unwatchable)

and plex seems reluctant to fix the problem.

I’m having the exact same problem as you. My P2000 arrived yesterday and i’m nothing but dissapointed. I really hope this is just a temporary bug or a error from our side.

edit: no subtitles selected

Subtitles are disabled. Still a lot of buffering.

Seems like people are having issues with non iGPU HEVC hardware transcoding. I’m hoping it’s something that can be fixed with a Plex patch.

Which OS are you using? I was on Windows Server 2016 and had the same problem as you. Turns out its WS2016 itself. I put Windows 10 on a seperate SSD and it now works for me without problems.

I was using a Windows Server 2016 VM. I ended up building a new Plex server with an 8th gen i5 on Windows 10. I’m using Quick Sync on the iGPU for hardware acceleration now. It works great.
