Sorry about that. Links fixed.
Could you share a sample media file?
Ty for all the testing over the weekend! Looks like there are some more common issues that I am adding to my list.
I’ll be pushing another update soon!
The stuttering issue was the primary problem that needed to be addressed and my understanding is that it has been fixed. I’m seeing that we are now including Dolby Vision and Audio Sync issues. That seems like scope creep. Can we release a fix for the primary problem that has been an issue for 18 months and defer additional issues to a future release? It seems like everyone is more interested in continuing to test and find more issues rather than addressing the primary concern that is causing most users to use Infuse instead of the app we pay money for as Plex Pass subscribers.
I use Infuse because Plex doesn’t support DV properly nor DA so more than happy for those issues to be addressed otherwise I have to continue to use Infuse.
We are including DV and HDR stuff as even though the stuttering seems to be almost fixed (I’ve not experienced any now) there are regressions from what the app was doing before this beta… now DV and some HDR content plays in SDR… which is a regression that needs to be fixed… they won’t release the player if it fixes one thing but breaks others.
That makes sense. Thanks for the clarification.
@Craig_Holliday text-based subtitles seem to ignore any subtitle preferences set on Apple TV.
Beta 9190 (without experimental player) plays mov_text and srt subs with adjusted subtitles.
Beta 9127 (with experimental player) plays same subs with a huge, overbearing font that cannot be altered.
Edit: Apologies, saw this is not on the radar until you guys are happy with video playback.
Almost fixed seems to be “spot on”!
I was watching a couple of serial episodes yesterday, and I said to myself: “Stuttering has been fixed, stuttering has been fixed, stuttering has been fixed…”
But I think that there is still some micro stutter in 8.39 (9190).
Once every few minutes, something happened that made me think - was there some stutter, or wasn’t there? Hard to tell, since it was so minute.
On the other hand, while watching the same episodes on Chromecast and on Apple TV in Infuse, there was no doubt in my mind that playback was 100% smooth on those platforms.
So I guess that there’s still a minor issue with stuttering…
I’m glad you brought this up, I was watching a TV series the other night and a bit stuttering appeared. I just exited the series and the app, returned again to Resume and all was good again. Now there where subs involved, srt, otherwise it being rock solid on this release of the Experimental player.
Just wondering: did anyone else get removed from the TestFlight?
I think Apple had issues yesterday because I got a notification to sign back into TestFlight but it kept erroring out. Just tried again this morning and upon opening the TestFlight app, I was logged in and I see Plex app again. So weird blip Apple had.
I still have access to the basic betas, but not the special ones anymore.
All working in Australia, just downloaded another. I use cloudflare 1.1.1.1 as my DNS
Thanks, I’ll keep an eye on it. I’m in other TestFlight betas and they all work fine (though the app did time out a few days ago when Apple had an outage in other apps as well). The Plex beta moved down into the “previously tested” area, and the description says “the developer removed you from the test program”. This happened before and @hsousa was able to get me back in.
@Craig_Holliday any update on a new version for us to test. With the long weekend ahead of us, would be great to get a build tomorrow that we could put through its paces.
That would be a good suggestion @rcork , the current version has little to report that has already been added to the discussion. My issue reported was a couple 1080p HEVC stuttered a bit but would fix itself after a restart of app. I live in Northern Australia and the Day temperatures have been 26º C - 32º C in the last week, so I’m hoping this is not a sign of over heating. My ATV 4K is not enclosed in a cabinet.
Does today’s 8.29(9244) beta include the new experimental player?
EDIT:
Some testing with today’s update…Looks like Spatial Audio has early support on AppleTV 4K, but like iOS, it’s limited to stereo, even though TrueHD is transcoding to FLAC 7.1 or 5.1 EAC3/AC3 audio is direct playing.
SRT Subtitles now look to properly follow the style settings set in the AppleTV setting App (outline, background, size etc).
HDR10/SDR color looks okay to me (can’t test DV right now). I’m not seeing any stutter or audio slip on UHD playback, and it looks like the manual audio offset has returned for those who need it.
No.
Nothing has changed with regards to Spatial Audio as far as I’m aware. The experimental player still has none whatsoever and this latest beta of the non experimental player is no different to the last couple of betas of the non experimental player. (They also did Stereo Spatial Audio)
I can’t comment on HDR/SDR but with regards to DV it’s still fake DV everywhere, for Profile 7 & 8.
I did get my hopes up on the (previous to current) 9106 build with the Experimental player…The lord giveth HDR fallback.
It took only three days for the lord to taketh away with build 9127 and the return of fake DV.
Copy,
In regards to the Spatial Audio, when the experimental player was direct playing TrueHD it did support full multichannel Spatial Audio (2 betas ago I believe?).
Interesting that the 8.29 (9244) release doesn’t have the experimental player, as the stutter issues I had with the “old mpv” player are not occurring in this release on either AppleTV 4K or iOS.
