Apple Player Update Beta Testing - Archive

Yeah I didn’t play anything long enough to monitor stutter to be honest. As soon as I saw either fake DV or lack of fully working Spatial Audio I just loaded Infuse again. Which with hindsight is probably why I missed that the Experimental player has ever been able to do Spatial Audio with any codecs.

@Craig_Holliday @hsousa it’s been a few weeks since the last build. Any chance we’ll get a new build soon to test?

Agreed, it would be a good step forward if some of the beta fixes were applied to the experimental Player release.

Love the enthusiasm, but you can safely assume that Plex staff are moving as fast as they can on this particular project and at no time are they sitting about thinking “oh, should I cut a new build? nah, I don’t think anybody’s wanting it.” :grinning: So I think in this case pinging them to ask for something they already know we want is just noise.

That said, Craig, can you send us a new build immediately? I’m bored (but don’t tell my boss). :joy:

Hello, how are you?

What is the procedure for me to receive the invitation to testflight?

Do I just have to fill out the forms at the beginning of the
topic?

That is correct, along with the devices you can test.

Okay, I filled out the form, now I just have to wait, right?

Weird, I got the invite and then I got a tester removed error. :frowning:

I’ve got the same issue for the invite :frowning:

Try restarting your ATV at your power source and or changing your DNS in your router to cloudfare.

I received the invite into the beta on TestFlight today so before I installed the beta version, I confirmed that the problem media was still stuttering on the public version. I then installed the beta and played the same media again and can confirm that the stuttering was gone. Might be able to cancel my Infuse sub

With the second testflight’s invite today, i’ve got the same error. I can’t join this test. I have the basic test (ios, tvOS) but not this Apple player test.

@Craig_Holliday

Just a quick update on the iPadOS side of things… with the release of iPadOS 18 RC, Plex version 8.39 (9244) is incorrectly displaying “log” (washed out) media when playing a file with HDR10 or DV metadata when the “old video player” is disabled. When it is enabled, Plex is transcoding the media and tone mapping to SDR.

With Plex Build 8.39 (9127), Plex is properly direct playing and tone mapping HDR/DV media when using the “Experimental Player”, no transcoding needed.

How are we looking HDR10+ support wise? Is this on the table?

@Craig_Holliday Just downloaded 8.41 on iOS and seems to have fixed a weird audio glitch where some channels were extremely quite compared to others - I think this was reported by some others in this thread.
Live TV also seems to have smoother playback for me in this build on iOS.

Doesn’t seem to be available on tvOS just yet.

Doesn’t show up in Test Flight on AppleTV

Hi @Craig_Holliday

Looks like 8.41 is doing some weird things with PGS subtitles on iOS. They’re giant

SRT subtitles look to be normal size:

Hi there, is the experimental player enabled by default in TestFlight builds or it needs to be manually enabled somewhere in settings? Sorry for the noob question but I’ve tried to search in this topic and haven’t found anything.

Different builds can be the normal Beta with MPV player, if unsure just check Technical details. There it will show if it is a Experimental player or not.

Swipe down to find Technical Details at top of screen when playing a title.
