How can networking issues be the problem when the solution is to kill the Plex app and starting it again?
And your answer is?
I’m experiencing exactly the same problem
I obviously have no answer. Why the bad attitude?
bug in the plex media player.
With this in mind, you will need to wait for the Beta to go live. Maybe then your issue will be resolved.
No bad attitude, just fact. My instillation does not exhibit this behavour.

yes, that’s why I’m here signing up for TestFlight.

this fact does not eliminate a software bug as a possible cause.
So your saying cached RX and TX errors could never cause problems with high bit rate 4K HDR content with Plex ATV player.
no, that’s not what I’m saying. But I do find it very unlikely in my specific situation.
Edit: I need to curb my initial enthusiasm. The connection is no longer lost after every single opening of the Plex app on AppleTV, but still gets lost frequently. So it’s back to settings and toggling the Announce As Player button all too often. Same issue as in the regular app, sadly.
This has gone awfully quiet again just as it appeared to be gathering momentum! We got a beta build on March 16th and then nothing since - in fact I think we’re all back on main beta now.
I take it that it’s proving more difficult than anticipated?
Is it still possible to join the beta on TestFlight? I signed up some time ago and haven’t heard anything yet.
No further updates since then. You’re going to have to chill and wait.
Played some HDR 4K content @ 16.5mbps and my Apple TV got really hot and started stuttering.
Then played some HDR10/DoVi 4K content @ 30.5mbps and played for 2+ hours without a hitch and the Apple TV felt pretty normal.
Would’ve thought the hdr10 at a higher bitrate would’ve put more strain on the player?
Edit:
Also PiP on iOS seems to be broken for me while trying to view hevc live tv, though hevc movies/tv seem to work fine
So by the end of the testing, which Dolby Vision profiles will end up being supported by Plex?
None, metal player added no additional video/audio support, was not listed in the OP.
This beta was about improving thermal throttling by switching to a more efficient API.
Adding video and audio capability is outside the scope. If you want that, look at Infuse.
Thats all correct to a point, If Thermal throttling was present it would not allow proper play of some Video and audio capability unfortunately.
I suppose that fairly obvious I hope…
For me it was huge improvement to Terrestrial Tv not dropping out using my HDHomeRun. So considering that improvement, I was pleased.
Any update on this issue? You’ve been working on a fix for 2 1/2 months. When can we expect an update to the ATV App that addresses this issue?
/me thinks the Plex company doesn’t care much about how poor value they add to the market.
App should’ve never been in this state to begin with, let alone take hundreds of forum users complaining to get them to at least acknowledge it. The company should be embarrassed.
From my experience working in tech, this always stems from poor leadership. The type of people that should be fired and should never be in charge.
