I now think Plex should stop building and maintaining their own client apps and let third-party app developers do it, even let those devs make money off of it. That lets the internal Plex team focus entirely on their API’s and increasing value on the Server and whatever else they want to do.

The only problem with this is part of Plex’s business model is now the FAST service. There are third-party Plex apps now, and none of them support the FAST service (and it’s questionable if any of them would even if given the ability to). One issue is if the streams could be secured to prevent a third-party app from recording them. The Plex free live TV channels are publicly accessible IPTV streams at this point, so someone could integrate them if they really wanted to.
