I think I had that issue but was due to the app needed to be closed from the app switcher.
That fixed the silent audio after the new audio engine being on and then turned off.

Its simply on every media played. for example switching between true hd to ac3 or the other way around during playback and sound is gone. one has to stop the movie, playback again and sound is back.
Without the offset funktion like in the old player its no use at the moment. i would have to sync manualy everytime using or leaving Plex.
My wife would go ………
Best regards an thx for the fast answer
Have you tried the wireless calibration via the Apple TV audio settings?
Yeah- i had to do a force quit to fix it. Thanks for the callout!
also, i’ve noted (though not specific to the experimental audio engine/renderer) that sound levels for the same file (playing direct) vary dramatically with pause/unpause and when starting it different times…
seems like the audio boost functionality might not always kick in?
Is there gonna be any attempt to bring profile 8 Dolby vision since tvOS now supports it?
Definitely seems quite possible to kill plex on resuming a 4K/HDR10 play:
| default | 13:37:59.803924-0600 | kernel | EXC_RESOURCE → PlexTV[756] exceeded mem limit: InactiveHard 2098 MB (fatal) |
|---|---|---|---|
| default | 13:37:59.804421-0600 | kernel | memorystatus: killing process 756 [PlexTV] in high band FOREGROUND (100) - memorystatus_available_pages: 37265 |
| default | 13:37:59.804558-0600 | kernel | PlexTV[756] Corpse allowed 1 of 5 |
New bug: for a particular file (not interesting; 720p SDR MP4 with AAC) i simply cannot scrub back and forth… it resets to the beginning of the file.
If i pause the episode and then move the play cursor to my desired spot, it dances on the timeline but then settles on the spot i want.
I originally thought this might be related to the “go back n secs on pause/resume” feature, but i turned that off (restarted the app from app switcher) and it still continued.
Hi imajes, when you mention scrub back and forward. << >>
Do you do the following, OK present the time line, Press OKagain to create a Vertical Line Bar / Pipe. Then use << or >> to navigate along the time Line, OK to resume.
If that is what your doing, I would suggest uninstall the Test flight current version by converting to a older version and re install again.
Or you may need to enable scroll and click for the ATV remote
I have not seen this behaviour with similar files. Could be wrong
Cheers
just saw it, it was a specific file. I sometimes just go left/right to move forward. that’s what triggered it. I am not even 1000% sure i could repro it again tomorrow.
Just wanted to share this.
There’s absolutely no way the same apple tv could play this media at that bitrate with the current production player. I’d absolutely be forced to transcode down to at most 60Mbps.
It’s pretty incredible, and I know that there’s still more to go.
@Craig_Holliday I know you mentioned earlier that the plan was to introduce the experimental player to the main testing group with 8.44, does that mean that 8.44(9600) includes the experimental player?
Newest gen Apple TV 4K and stereo pair of HomePod minis.
I’ve had to use the old audio engine since the new one launched because audio would cut out regularly on the HomePod minis.
On 8.44 build.
Not Tested: I’ve also had issues using the new video engine /old audio engine combo playing back Remux 4K HDR files (video direct play, audio transcode). Video begins to skip after 5-15 minutes. Same file can playback (direct play video/audio) via Infuse with absolutely no issue, so it’s not a bandwidth issue.
I’ve found with my Apple TV 4K and stereo HomePod minis that with the latest build to use.
Old player: off - of course
Old audio engine: off
New audio engine: off
New renderer: On
Only real draw back for me is a delay of about 2 seconds when resuming a paused video, otherwise no pause when starting a video or any audio cut outs.
Edit: and once again, once you set all these settings I find force closing the app before trying to play something is best.
I do not see options to toggle “Old Player”, “New Audio Engine” or “New Renderer” in settings.
Just “Old Video Player” and “Old Audio Engine”.
First issue today. Tried to play the 4k Blueray rip for the Grinch. Seasonally fitting right ![]()
7.1 TrueHD - Was transcoded to OPUS with missing speech. Tried restarting Apple TV and Samsung TV but no luck. Strange as I had no issues previously with the same format.
Is this with the new audio engine enabled?
Yes, new audio engine enabled
Just did some more testing. playing a mivie with the new render, old audio on, solves my sync problem. but for example true hd is transcoded to fla again. maybe the delay is caused from the new audio engine.
best regards
edit: not in sync with 4k movies high bitrate.
