Hi guys! I’m sure this question have been asked before but can’t really find the answer. I already have a Roku 3 and it’s been working flawlessly. I have to buy a second one but since that model don’t exist anymore, I’m lookin at other models (premier + or Ultra) and I see all those sound issues. So I’m wondering if an Apple TV 4 would be better. Between Roku and Apple TV, which one is a better choice?
I’m running my server out of a 2015 imac all connected using 1g ethernet. No WiFi.
ATV 4 is my favorite plex interface and i use many. Followed by the plex connect for older apple tvs, roku ranks as #3 for me as a tie with the ps4 app.
Actually there are still Roku 3s in the wild. They are refurbished but that usually means that someone bought it and found it was not what they wanted.
My cousin who lives in the far north of Alaska bought one a couple of weeks ago and it finally arrived yesterday (Shipping to where she lives is a bit haphazard at times) and she had it hooked up and going within an hour. She lives in one of the few places on earth with great internet and great phone service and no supplied power (She runs solar, wind and diesel)) and VERY irregular delivery services.
Now she can sit back and enjoy TV better while six of her sons (two moved away) run the ranch. She’s my age and feels she has earned comfort in her retirement.
Apple TV doesn’t have Amazon Prime video if that matters to you. It’s coming later this year. But otherwise I love the AppleTV interface. AirPlay is convenient too for those times you want to show things quickly.
Bought the Apple TV this afternoon. Totally love it. Found the interface nicer and faster than on my Roku 3. Quickly tried playing few movies that I know they have high bitrates and didn’T experience any issues so far. I’ll see in the next few days while I’m watching more movies but so far, thumbs up!
