I recently picked up a Roku 3 and not really enjoying the Plex experience on it. Not really a fan of the UI and the performance doesn't really seem that good.
I'm now tempted to try out PlexConnect on the ATV3 and wanted some general experiences on it over the Roku. I dont have internet at home so purely purchased the Roku for Plex.
a. Does PlexConnect transcode everything? (I have read about DTS being converted)
Sorry to chime in as I dont have much to add to your conv, except that I agree that the Roku Plex Channel really could use an overhaul. Something like the look and feel of XBMC would be hands down amazing.
I have both, I prefer PlexConnect. Channels are much more stable on the Roku, and myPlex is supported, but that’s about the only positives, for my personal benefit. All of my library content plays flawlessly with the universal transcoder, and the UI is much more improved. Once the client supports myPlex, and other useful features that other clients have are incorporated, PlexConnect will be the best user experience, hands down. It is the iOS ecosystem, with Plex. Doesn’t get much better than that

Thanks for positive feedback. It sounds like PlexConnect might me what I am after.

Hm... without Internet access you won't be able to use PlexConnect, I am afraid. Without the chance to call home, aTV will only display two icons, Computers and Settings. So far, no chance to add others to the home screen. :-(

b. What's the WIFI connection speeds like?
c. General usability?
Cheers

Yes he is correct. If you have no internet you won't be able to use the ATV. Go with the Roku 3.
Id always prefer plexconnect with atv over roku if you got internet. But you never know how long it will work, since some apps already haved do https :(

Well, PlexConnect blocks AppleTV updates, so you can update only when you are sure that the update is not breaking PlexConnect.
Just bought a Roku 3 and I'm actually a bit disappointed. The UI is almost unusable, thats how bad it is. It works very smoothly but navigating large libraries is very tedious.

Thats where youre wrong. The appleTV Update block doesnt help if the App itself changes to https. WSJ and crunchyroll have been changed without any AppleTV Update

Wonder if this will be any better/fixed when Synology release the app for Roku. I was thinking about getting a Roku3; but will hold off till the jury is in
