What I find ironic/hilarious is that Tidal is rolling out Atmos enabled music on ATV.4K Gee if there were only some connection between Plex and Tidal…
OMG That is funny. You can have extra cake! Of course, I believe that two channels is more than enough of Jay-Z, so not sure why anyone would want all those Atmos channels on Tidal.
Surround sound is great for orchestral recordings. Can really get a sense of the venue in which the music was recorded.
And of course Pink Floyd in surround will get you arrested, in a good way.
Damn I missed 200! I’ll try to be more careful as we approach future post milestones. I’m gonna try VLC tomorrow.
I’m sorry that I hogged the 200. There’s still cake left in the fridge though.
VLC works and sounds great, but the interface sucks and there is no gapless audio.
I was checking Emby the other day and I don’t think they have the bandwidth to fix the audio issue either. I complained almost a year ago there and there is nothing going on as far as fixing it. Their solution is just to downmix it into stereo, which actually is a whole lot better than Plex’s just using the 2 channels. Neither solution is acceptable. I was looking at switching to NVidia and dumping the ATV, but they don’t support AT&T TV right now, so that wouldn’t work. Plex is so close to being the perfect media player.
Keep the faith brother!
Please fix this, Plex. Please. Please. Please. Enough time has passed.
I’ve been using VLC since the multichannel debacle started… its seriously ugly, but surround works at least. The no gapless is… bearable… gah… no… ugh… damn…
I’ve played with VLC and got it to work… but I just can’t. Please, Plex. Please. Please.
Yep. It’s embarrassing when you have friends over, so I always have JRiver ready.
Good morning,
And I just discovered this thread…
Still no news from Plex?
Well, I think I have a work around?
I can post my situation in detail later, but was aware of this plex issue.
So Ive been trying to to use MrMC Media player to play my multichannel rips (mostly flac but sacd still in dsf format) but keep having an issue with ‘lock permission’ (or something similar) when I try to access my files on a Mac-mini. (windows seems to be okay other than I currently do not have a windows Plex server.) I need to rebuild my Windows 10 desktop.
Anyway I am digressing/rambling…
The Work Around.
In MrMC on my AppleTv-4K, it has a PLEX extension. Selecting that to access my Plex Multi-channel plays my music in multi-channel according t my Marantz Processor’s display. IT sounds like it too.
Bruce, what is your favorite track test that you mentioned earlier, please?
Adrian
Adrian,
I always test with UK’s Time To Kill from their Night After Night disc. The vocals are entirely in the center channel, which is missing on Plex, so I know within 5 seconds if it is working.
I believe I tried the free version of MrMC and it didn’t work. Wasn’t going to pay for it unless I could see it work. I’ve already sunk enough money into Plex, JRiver and Emby. I’m sort of living with JRiver or VLC. VLC sucks because it doesn’t have gapless audio and it is a painful interface, but at least it is on ATV and basically works. Maybe I’ll take another look at MrMC.
Thanks. -bruce
I don’t recall paying for MrMC but maybe I did?
Still cannot get MrMC to access my files on my Mac-Mini.
I wish there was a simple way of playing 5.1 on my AppleTV!
Will look for that disc, is it SACD/DVD-A/Blu-ray?
A.
Ah, cannot seem to eb able to buy it anymore?
I do hate the fact that multi-channel music formats are:
- expensive
2.Often limited edition
There are some albums that are pretty pricy if youcan still get them?
anyway I’m digressing again, Thanks Bruce…
Wow. You’re right. It is completely sold out. Good for them. Send me an email. I have an account at gmail using my name without my middle initial.
Glad you guys are keeping this fire going… all my posts about this problem (from many months ago) are now locked… I want 5.1 Flacs to play in 5.1 on my Apple TV… like they did before… this is a feature that went away…
Plexamp is a very cool iphone app and I think once everyone has 5g… they will have the bandwidth to stream flac to their cars… well… imagine 5.1 flac! That would be great, Plex, while your at it…
Hey guys unless I’m doing something wrong the MrMC solution doesn’t work. I purchased the full version and I’m only getting 2.0 audio when I play 5.1 FLAC files.
I couldn’t get it to work at all. Give VLC a try. It is free. You need to keep your Plex server up I believe to get it to work.
I can confirm VLC works for 5.1 music albums. Total bummer on Plex side. I signed up for the pass yesterday only to find that this feature doesn’t work for ATV. I only get 2.0 mixes. Can’t recommend this until it’s fixed. Hopefully soon.
