And it just gets worse. Now, suddenly, Plex can’t even scan music folders. I get an internet not connected message. I can scan movie folders though. Man, are they trying to get us to leave or what? Maybe it is just my account, but even my mp3 folder can’t be updated anymore.
I have the same problem too!!! is there any fix on the way?
Well… They know about the problem. It is on their to-do list. BUT, it’s been there for over a year with no mention of how soon they will get to it. They are having to rebuild their audio player over all of the platforms, so that is going to take a while. So, we have no clue when this will be fixed.
Any steps needed to play 5.1 on VLC? I only get 2 channels for a file that has 5.1 on appleTV.
Check settings on ATV and make sure it’s set to 5.1 and not stereo. VLC did not have any settings specific to 5.1, if I recall. So, it should play the 5.1 file, as long as you have ATV set up correctly.
BUMP! Still not working. Please, Plex. Please. And thank you.
Yep. No sign of any movement here. They look to be busy bringing on new features and then fixing the issues they cause. I believe we are at the proverbial bottom of the list. How else do you explain this being down for well over a year?
Maybe it would help if we kept bringing the issue to their attention on this forum…
Well, that’s why I’ve kept this thread open. At some point, I assume they’ll notice that this thread has been open for over a year. A couple of times, they have checked in here to tell us that it is on a list. But that is all we’ve ever heard.
Guess I should have included a sarcasm emoji!
Or at least this:
Hey look what just got fixed in the LG webOS public preview:
- Fixed multi-channel flac files not playing without transcoding
Keep hope alive!
For those of you (like me) who have been waiting for this feature to return, you can try a different piece of hardware of you have the time, some spare cash and an inclination for it. I desperately wanted to hear my DTS/5.1 audio tracks and from what I have gathered, Apple is not allowing passthrough from the software. I verified this was the case as another punter suggested using VLC on tvOS which I tried. I got the amp to signal 5.1 audio but then the appletv produced only 2 channels because of the (lack of) passthrough.
So using different hardware, a raspberry PI 2, I installed rasplex (http://www.rasplex.com/) on a 16SD micro card and had my PI going with Plex in about 15m. A few teaks in the menu to enable 7.1 audio and enable the WIFI, logon to Plex and I was listening to my beautiful DTS tracks again.
It’s a pity to have another device instead of everything in the one box, but the PI is small, just using 5V usb and works well. It may be an option for some punters out there like me who just can’t wait for Apple to allow us to do the stuff we paid for when we purchased the device!
That’s strange that VLC wasn’t working right. I’ve had no problems with it (although I haven’t used it a lot). My issue with changing hardware is that Plex is only a piece of my entertainment center. I have AT&T TV, HBO, SHO, YouTube, Reuters and other apps that would have to be replaced. I’m already switching between ATV and JRiver for my music, so the PI doesn’t really make things any simpler, for me. It is a good idea for someone who is just using Plex though.
We should start planning the 2nd anniversary of multi channel being down now. You know how fast time flies.
I also have VLC playing back 5.1 content correctly on Apple TV so I don’t the problem is on the Apple side of things.
Bruce I’ll bet you this gets fixed before the next anniversary!
I’ll take that bet. What are we betting?
The same bragging rights as the last two bets I lost! I would feel a little more confident if one of the moderators had checked in since April.
I would happily pay for virtual rounds of drinks if I could lose this bet. It’s sort of like betting against your hometown team. You really want your team to win, but the odds aren’t in your favor.
Hey Dave, I thought I’d check in with you. It’s been about 8 months since your last visit here. Any updates for us?
At this time, I don’t have any further information, but I have been following this up internally
EDIT: While I haven’t commented in a while, I’m still reading every time there’s an update to this thread
