Confirm please?
DirectPlay or DirectStream?
The ARMv8 does not have the CPU power do handle those bitrates of HEVC. Most i7 CPUs can’t handle that.

Where can i see which configuration i have choosen?
i set the setting allway for “original” quality., if thios will help.
In “Now Playing” , hover over it with the mouse (another browser window works great).
It will report what it’s using
Hey Chuck, its direct play.
Chuck, when updates are released to this alpha… will they be made available in this thread?
Yes.
I will update the links at the top in the OP.
I will edit the OP to indicate I’ve updated and what was fixed. So far, due to either exceptional work, low participation, or just plain, dumb, luck (haha) I’m not seeing any errors unique to ARMv8. This is great news.
At current rate, I will be able to move this to open alpha testing next week.
Yeah, haven’t reported anything as I’ve not run across any major issues yet.
Just installed the alpha build on my DS218play (Brand new/setup today).
New Netgear R6400 router (firewall disabled)
DS218play firewall is disabled.
Installed alpha build, attempted to run/open the app from Synology Package Center, and it pulls up a page with “Connection refused” to “192.168.x.x:32400/web/index.html”
Thoughts?
Yes.
Sometimes DSM doesn’t start PMS right.
Please check the following:
That failing, let’s find out what’s happening
Logs
and Compress to Logs.zip
This is the first non-start I’ve seen
Here’s my log archive
Logs.zip (110.1 KB)
-Edit- I uninstalled and removed the /Plex shared folder. Reinstalled, and set it to have me manually configure network settings. It appears to be that the server auto-configured a port with my router, but then blocked access locally and externally.
PMS blocked? It has no capability to do that.
Remote Access does not automatically enable itself
I’ve never seen DSM go ‘blocking happy’. Something new in DSM?
Your logs show everything running fine.
Is it active now and running ok??
Hello all,
First of all thanks for the effort on bringing armv8 to the supported archs. Even though I have no use for flex pass (no need for DVR, mobile playing, etc) I just decide to subscribe to give some support to the team behind this.
Since I don’t use a NAS, would be possible for Plex to start offering generic ARM (v7 and v8) builds packaged as .deb (or even generic .tar packages) so people like me can easily install the server on small computers (like Raspberry pi and others) without having to “unpack” and modify this NAS packages?
I’m now running Ubuntu on a small armv8 board. Plex server seems to run great (I have no need for transcoding since I get optimized encodes for my TV). But the installation process is always a bit of a mess because I always need to deal with this NAS specific builds.
Having a generic Linux package similar to what you offer now, but instead compiled to ARM would be a life saver. It makes sense if you think about this “new” market of affordable single board computers.
Keep the good work!
Same here Apple TV not playing anything can’t create playback session , iPhone works flawlessly though
Thank you for your support. This one has been a while in the making. Finally though, we’re here.
I think the steps this testing are taking will satisfy your needs as well.
After this, I’m confident you’ll see an ARMv8 Ubuntu. @drmagoo and I have already chatted about him repackaging for Ubuntu just as he does for Raspberry PI
Lovely to hear that!
I did repackage the Synology ARMv8 build as deb and installed it on my Ubuntu 16.04 system running aarch64 (cortex A53 cores) w/ kernel 4.14.
For now everything seems to work as expected. But I’m quite new to plex and right now I only use it to stream a few TV shows to my TV. So far so good, no hiccups found.
Great to see that the team working on this! For now I’ll keep repackaging the Synology builds and make usable deb packages for testing.
Cheers
I ask you to please not let that DEB file out of your hands for now. It is a one-off build and I have more changes to make before placing it in final, distribution, form.
@amxfonsca You might not be aware of the community supported armv7 Ubuntu / Debian packages, so please read the following thread. Of course, after the final armv8 release there will also be packages for arm64 Ubuntu / Debian in my repo.
I understand. Like I said, this is just an attempt to make it run on my own. I won’t redistribute any software I don’t own. No worries . I’m doing just for the fun of it and I learn something during the process
Ah! That is really helpful. This helps a lot my current situation.
I was basically using the official plex debian package (the ubuntu amd64 one) as a starting base and basically swapping the binaries while keeping the other supporting scripts (systemd files and other startup helpers).
You got a lot of great resources there. Especially for someone like me that is not really experienced on this specific area.
Thanks you guys! I’ll stick around and keep testing both approaches until we get an “official” packages.
Cheers
Keep it up and you might get nominated for
I’m a noob, so forgive my ignorance. I’m just glad that there is ARMv8 support. Huge kudos to you two for working this! Thanks!
Anyways I’m using DS418 and Windows…I’ve manually installed the .spk file through Synology package center. However, it will not find any files (pictures or movies). It states there are “no items in this library” despite me selecting the /volume1/video path where the files are all saved (for movies).
I have also installed the latest iteration of PMS on the computer, but to no avail…
Any suggestions?
