ARMv8 platform alpha testing - Discussion & Troubleshooting

Yes. I am notified when ALL new builds are available.

I’ll be the one updating the download link and posting the update notice :slight_smile:

Thank you! That’s great info. I’m seeing the same . It’s nice to see someone else validate my results

Finally, Plex on the DS118. Thumbs Up!!!

DS118 Working fine after I’ve fixed some Firewall and user rights issues mentioned above.
Watched a movie with the IOS App.
Direct 1920x808 stream. Only Audio transcoding.
Will try the PS4 App and some transcoding later this week.

Keep up the good work!

DS218play report:

After initial setup and configuration, my NAS auto-configured Plex’s ports with my NetGear 6400’s firewall/port-forwarding rules.
I had to give the Plex user on my NAS permissions for my media directories in order for the server to allow users to begin streaming from the various directories. The server could see the filesystems, but wasn’t allowed by default to transcode those files.

Transcoding both locally and via remote access seems successful with all filetypes, across iOS, Android, Samsung 4k TV, and PS4 Plex apps.

Codecs:
sourceVideoCodec=“h264” sourceAudioCodec=“aac” container=“mpegts” duration=“5813930” height=“406” protocol=“hls” videoCodec=“h264” videoFrameRate=“24p” videoResolution=“SD” width=“720” videoProfile=“high” bitrate=“547” container=“mpegts” <Stream bitrate=“385” frameRate=“23.975999999999999” height=“406” id=“X” streamType=“1” width=“720”

targetBitrate=“552” sourceVideoCodec=“h264” sourceAudioCodec=“aac” container=“mpegts” duration=“1346408” height=“406” protocol=“hls” videoCodec=“h264” videoFrameRate=“24p” videoResolution=“SD” width=“720”

I can attach log files if requested.

Edit: Logs with bitrates, codecs, and stream data attached in text file.

Plex Logs.txt (3.6 KB)

@jds0026

If you wouldn’t mind providing some details about the source codecs & bitrates as well was what playback conditions were (like shown above and how I requested in my OP ) that would be great.

I don’t have all the details but most of the movies I tried to are MKV | 1080p | x264 | BluRay

If you like I can share my plex movies library with you for you to try and play movies from your Apple TV 4.

Just send me your email and I’ll send you an invitation.

Log with codecs, bitrates, and playback conditions attached

ALL:

Updated Alpha Testing status in my Announucement Post at the bottom.

I am brand new to this so I apologize if this is not what you were looking for in the testing as I am still learning about transcoding, etc. I have been running the PMS on a DS118 and everything seems to work fine, except playing live TV through Roku with my HDHomeRun. I can’t stream any live TV or watch any recorded shows. When I try to watch stream a live show it buffers to 13% and then says it cannot be played. When I try to watch a recorded show it gives me a “multiple playback error” message. Live streaming and playback of recorded shows work fine on my Android phone. Thank you for all your work.

@mbrinser_gmail_com

Which Roku? I have a Roku 3 on hand. Does playback work if playing regular movies / episodes which are already in your library?

I also would like to ask if you can create a test-case log for me?

  1. Verbose Logging off
  2. Debug Logging on
  3. Start Playback and create the error
  4. Wait 15 seconds for everything to return to normal
  5. Settings - Server - Help - Download Logs
  6. Attach the ZIP file.

I ask this because your Roku could be doing the same thing as the Apple TV. If it is, it will really help us pinpoint which line(s) of code have the problem.

@mbrinser_gmail_com

Please disregard my request.

Working with another team member and we’ve reproduced it

Ok. Let me know if you need anything moving forward.

AppleTV & Roku player problem resolved! :slight_smile:

The changes were reviewed and approved last night.
The next version of PMS will have this correction added to it.
A few days after that, “Master PMS” will be copied over to our area here on the new build system.
We get a full fresh build of what will be PMS 1.13.5 with all these corrections in place

Sound good?

Have played some Jellyfish test files via web player. Résultats on DS118 :

Stutter (Initial buffer very long) : Transcode, 1080p HEVC (20 Mbps) -> 720p H.264 (2 Mbps)
Stutter (Initial buffer very long) : Transcode, 1080p HEVC (15 Mbps) -> 720p H.264 (2 Mbps)
Stutter (Lot less stutter than above) : Transcode, 1080p HEVC (10 Mbps) -> 720p H.264 (2 Mbps)
Stutter (Nearly successful playback) : Transcode, 1080p HEVC (5 Mbps) -> 720p H.264 (2 Mbps)

Success (Playback OK, Initial buffer long) : Transcode, 1080p HEVC (3 Mbps) -> 720p H.264 (2 Mbps)
Success (Playback OK, Initial buffer long) : Transcode, 1080p H.264 (25 Mbps) -> 720p H.264 (2 Mbps)
Success (Playback OK, Initial buffer long) : Transcode, 1080p H.264 (30 Mbps) -> 720p H.264 (2 Mbps)

Thanks for the info on next update.

Sorry about the vagueness. It works on the app that’s on my iPhone 8 and it works on the computer (Windows 10); however, it does not stream on the TV that’s run with Apple TV.

I know that the Apple TV is capable of playing Plex as a buddy lets me access his server and we have watched several shows.

Would another pull of the Logs help out or is it something else?

Thanks!

HEVC decode on an ARMv8? I frankly would never thought possible but OK!? Lol

I do not expect HEVC to make the ‘cut’ for which codecs will be reported as ok but maybe this is a game changer.

This is why profiling the cpu in real world use is so important

What happens when you try that with an audio track included?

Testing DS218play.

Direct streaming of 1080p, 480p - H.264: Success

More testing to come.

Jason,

If you read my post , 2 posts above yours, I specifically stated the PMS server issue with AppleTV and Roku players was fixed last night. Three of us worked together until about midnight and resolved it.

I see the same screen over and over as previous user posted. I have to remove and re-install the media server multiple times to get it working again. I am running it on my Macbook and streaming to my Xbox One. Both on same network. This happens almost daily where it can’t find server.
