Artist Error in Music Library - Compilation Albums

Hi

I am running Plex Server on Windows 10

I added for the 1st time my music library in Plex (adding folders to “Music” - im not using Itunes Playlists or the XML in this case - i have added a specific folder to “Music” in the same way i would add a folder to movies)
)
The folder size is around 800GB and is mainly compilation albums e.g Various Artists

Plex seems to have taken alot of the content of this library and assigned Donald Byrd as the Album Artist - even though Donald Byrd has no connection to that album - The folder i added was originally compiled in Itunes and i have checked there is no reference to Donald Byrd in these albums in Itunes

Anyone know what might have caused this? or what resolution is?

I have already done the following - but issue still exists

  • Removed the folder/library from Plex and re-added
  • Deleted the Plex database and rebuilt from scratch (I didnt delete the Plex Server, just the database

Anyone have an idea how to fix?
I know i can manually change the Album Artist - but there are over 300 albums tagged so dont want to do this manually

I just checked and prefer local meta data is unticked - so i should have this ticked?
Can i assume that i cannot fix the issue, but ticking this would prevent it happening?

for reference the source of the media being read by the library is driven by the fact itunes puts all compilations in its own folder, then it orders by album name, not artist

No, this may even make it worse.
If it is unticked, Plex uses metadata from musicbrainz.org
If it recognizes an album among your other ‘Various Artists’ albums, which does not use ‘Various Artists’ as its AlbumArtist on musicbrainz, all other VA albums may get re-assigned to this deviating artist.
i.e. it has all to do with your folder structure, as explained in the link.
You need to find out those albums which are not VA and remove them from the VA folder on disk, and move them into their proper Artist folder.
