Server Version#: Asustor AS5202T
Player Version#: 1.42.1.10060
I have an Asustor AS5202T Nimbustor server and also Plex Pass. After updating the system to ADM 5.0, Hardware Transcoding is not working.
Now that I’ve recovered my server after the password reset chaos, I can look back to this issue. On September 10 I got an e-mail from Asustor warning this would happen. In pertinent part the e-mail said “Updated libraries in ADM are not compatible with the ffmpeg patches provided by Realtek. This affects NAS ASUSTOR NAS devices running Realtek CPUs. Which means hardware-accelerated transcoding will no longer be supported after upgrading to ADM 5.0.”
I haven’t upgraded to ADM 5.0 yet (my file server is a AS1102T) and I’m trying to understand how this is likely to affect me. Can someone who knows more about all of this help out?
See the Plex NAS Compatibility List.
Plex does not support hardware accelerated transcoding on Asustor NAS with ARM CPUs.
Western Digital My Cloud Home are the only ARM based NAS where Plex supports hardware accelerated transcoding.
appreciate the additional information! it doesn’t look like my file server ever supported hardware accelerated transcoding, so kind of a non-issue for me?
Correct.
