Asustor AS5304T NAS Plex Server Live TV constant buffering on internal network

Server Version#: 1.25.6.5577
Player Version#: 4.75.0
Tuner Make/Model: HD HomeRun Extend
Guide/Lineup name: Local Broadcast Listing
Using XMLTV?: No
Channel number/Name: All channel

I am only access plex on my LAN- not web. I cant get live TV to play without constant buffering unless i switch to a much lower feed - like “convert to 720P 2Mbps”. I am just trying in chrome browser for now.

NAS is an Asustor AS5304T.

This is a on an internal gigabit network.

I have the HDHomeRun Extend configured to transcoder quality: Highest quality.

I tried installing the server on a powerful windows 11 pc using the same HDHomeRun tuner. It streamed fine.

In the prior version of the Asustor AS5304T Plex server software ( Version 1.18.4.2171)- i was able to stream fine from the server. This is an intel quad core 64 bit NAS.

While the data that it works fine on a powerful PC would suggest that its a processing issue- the fact that it would fine in the previous NAS version seems to point to something else being jacked up.

I have the same issue if i try to run the play will on the plexserver. Could use some help @anon18523487 or @chrisallen

The Extend has it’s own HW transcoder built in. You should leave the clients to “original/maximum” quality. Having anything else will cause PMS on the NAS to start transcoding. Your NAS is not that powerful, but I don’t think it’s a transcoding issue. I think it might be a network issue.

@anon18523487 i think i figured it out. i was using round robin link aggregation (plugged into a switch). I moved to a different location- plugged directly into the router- and it worked fine. I was also able to resolve it by switching to adaptive load balancing. it was also fine with just 1 network port connected.

Just wondering…how would the AS5304T compare a Synology DS920+ as a Plex server?

Yeah, Plex doesn’t work well through load balancers.

They’re about the same. The Synology has a slightly newer CPU, but not significant enough that you would notice.
