I have a large number of non English language films. The language and audio filters are potentially very useful. Unfortunately, they are :
i) inaccurate (Italian films will appear under German and so on)
ii) classified under various country/language tags
iii) sometimes listed using non European characters.
iv) English is present and appears to select all (??)
In all it is really not helpful, although it could be.
Is there any way around this? Or a way to edit the file tags?
The filter doesn’t look at the movie’s country of origin.
It shows which audio languages are embedded in your video files.
If all your movies have an English audio track, it is expected that they all show up when you filter for ‘audio language’=English.
OK thanks - but what about the chaos of the other attributions - it feels pretty arbitrary as a grouping process. If I look at Finnish, I get French films, that certainly do not have French audio. As for English being an audio track on all (or the vast majority) of non-English films, it seems a bit odd to say the least.
As for not taking the country of origin, what is the country filter. Do we know how it works?
An additional oddity is that it will mostly have the correct metadata as far as finding the poster and synopsis.
Previously, I laboriously went through all the films and assigned a tag for country, but really it was a pain. I’d be really pleased not to have to do that again.

I have to revise my earlier answer.
There is indeed a ‘Country’ filter.
As far as I can see, it is populated with data from the IMDb. (At least if you are using the ‘Plex Movie’ metadata agent).
If the IMDb lists several countries, apparently the first listed is taken into Plex.
Who would have thought that “Unlocked (2017)” is really a mainly czech production?

How is that odd? Movies very often come with one or several different audio tracks.
Could you post the Plex XML info of one such movie as an example?

Thanks - I should have said that if I select Finnish as a countryI get some french films, and lack some that I know are Finnish; similarly for language.
About the English, having looked again, some films that are definitely not with a English audio are shown as having one - for example, ‘Mother Joan of the Angels’ a 1961 Polish film is identified as having an English audio, whereas it is in fact Polish with English subtitles (which are marked as none).
It does however have the other meta-data correct. It does not appear in the Polish Language filter.
I am reluctant to loose the agent, as it makes the interface much more useful/attractive. Navigation is an issue though once you get over a few hundred films in any category (at least this is my expereince.)
If there is some way of correcting the attribution of those films I know to be wrong that would be great - and sorry if I missed an obvous way to do this.

The file has the information in it that the audio track is indeed in english:
You can check yourself: download mediainfo here
(pay attention during installation, it comes with a ‘piggybacked’ installer which asks to install additional crapware. Make sure to set/clear the right checkboxes!)
Or simply play the file in a desktop video player like VLC. They’ll say the same.
