Audio Lag

I’m experiencing horrible audio lag of about 1 second. It appears to be on Plex channels only. My OTA live or recordings don’t have the problem. Streams don’t start out of sync but at some time they shift. Not sure when. This is on the Windows app or Windows HTPC both.

Where do I start looking?

Can you confirm that every Plex streaming channel is affected the same?

I’m not able to test every one. I can say that every one I’ve tried has the same issue. No less than 15 channels tried.

Could it be after advertisement breaks?

Perhaps. I can’t say for sure. I’ll look closer. I can say it sometimes happens after just a few minutes and takes maybe 30 minutes other times.

I think you may be on to something. The first time I really paid attention to a commercial break the sync went off DURING the commercial and never came back. The lag was 9 seconds.

Could you reproduce the issue and then grab the logs of the player?
(please let it play for ~ 30 seconds after the advertisement to firmly confirm the audio delay)

Please zip the log file, then it will upload fine. The insertion into a word processor app makes it very difficult to work with.

The commercial started about 7:35 and was noticed about 7:38 when the program returned. I couldn’t tell much during the commercial because it was in Spanish.

OK, thanks. In the mean time I’ll uninstall and mark it non-functional in my logs. Hopefully someone will let me know when they believe it is resolved.

Your server is not involved in AVOD playback. This is purely handled by your client and the servers of Plex.tv

Not having any support available is very disappointing. Sometimes I wonder why bother.

is it only with HTPC and the Windows desktop apps? Is the Web app in browser fine?

We have an open bug report for this the devs have been investigating how to fix but sorry i don’t have an eta.

That’s correct. Using a browser it appears fine. Both the HTPC and desktop apps have the problem.

This is a serious problem making all Plex channels unusable. It is not just a rare nuisance issue. It has been going on for at least a year and there have been updates that happened with this issue being ignored. I was sold the functionality of watching Plex channels that was not delivered. It’s time for the issue to move up on the priority list, not sure how much patience I have left.
