I can’t get it to install. Continues to fail? Did they block it on their end?
Not that Im aware.
Did you get the latestt version from the forum thread?
agreed. the new app needs to have passthrough settings… surely it can’t be that hard!?
I agree with everyone else that PCM is a noticeably poorer experience. Please bring passthrough back! How hard can it be to not decode something?
This would also add value to the Tidal link you have going on. Anyone on the Hi-Fi subscription is bound to want direct pass-through (Tidal’s own app does this) to let their audio equipment convert the original bit/sample rates, rather than converted. Plex always stutter at the start of each track.
Thanks for getting the media keys working on keyboards though, nice to have them finally working.
sorry Plex, but without audio passthrough, this app is completely useless for me.
Which is fine, since you can keep using PMP…
Any news if the new player supports pass through yet?
Add me to the “useless without audio passthrough” list.
Hello,
I use a Dolby Atmos for Home Theatre soundbar + wireless surround speakers. If never used TV mode in PMP, but I had to activate passthrough in there for the surround sound to work correctly. Then I just used the destop mode with a mouse. Without this feature in the new Plex app its kinda useless for me.
The only audio that works correctly is “true” Atmos content, otherwise (DTS-HD 7.1, AC3 5.1 etc) it does not output any sound at all through my back speakers.
I dont care about the TV mode, only passthough audio.
Then you are advised to continue using PMP - as it has passthrough while Plex Player does not:
When the next riot breaks out about the killing of PMP, I suggest you join the angry villagers for the 4PM Storming of Castle Plex. It’s a real hoot.
If you can’t make the 4PM Storming, you will be provided a torch for the 10PM Storming. See Reggie in the Angry Villager Supply Hut. Please bring your own sack of fresh dung. Reggie and his lovely wife Broomhilda just can’t produce it fast enough.
the new plex app works MUCH better with larger file sizes & remote streaming, but the lack of audio pass-through is an absolute deal-breaker. the previous “plex media player” for windows allows pass-through if you configure the options in the “tv layout” but streaming the same larger file sizes it struggles (even when both end-points have 1000mbps fiber, go figure). really want to love the new plex app but no true audio pass-through is a joke. r.i.p. atmos, dts-x, etc., if this is the future for plex.
Iam just ended to setup plex server in a esxi, searching a bit to setup all, like the hardware decode by the embedded gpu etc etc, its just now work perfectly!
But can’t decode without the plex pass so - 1 points… Its a shame. But ok, I toke 1 month to test it. And now its just a fantastic tool! Top quality, top option etc…
The 4k 10bit just run perfectly… But… But??? What??
Can’t use the digital sound signal of a 4k? Like DTS sound?
Sorry but we are in 2019-2020. We dont watching DivX anymore guys! We have 4k monitor to watch ultra hd movies with a ultra HD sound! Not a 2.0 like ■■■■!!!
You probably answer to my text by : buy a new home theater system with the compatibility to work when its directly connect on the computer…
Ok, ok… But why I need to use plex so? VLC or simply Kodi make the job too and continue to use the passtrough…
Serious?.. Are you ■■■■■■■ serious?
Maybe the majority of the plex pass users dont need this kind of feature, and dont now the difference between digital HD sound and a basic sound, so I can understand that your team dont care to give this feature for the “purist” (or just poor like me?
) but really its really really too bad cause plex its a really good product and you make a grate job and I have no problem to pay for that!
Digital sound like DTS with a action movie… LOVE
Stereo? Its like watching a movie to the cinema and watching a movie on a smartphone
So no pass-through =
apt-get remove plexmediaserver
apt-get purge plexmediaserver
Ciao.
You can forget, its not on the dev list. Like the plex team member said before… Pffff
Let me ask a dump question after spending 3 hours searching, googling and finding this and that guide to change Settings, Audio, that ohh by the way not there…
Now i find this here post, and i understand there is, a PMP ? and i have installed this, https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-desktop/1.4.1.940-574c2fa7/windows/Plex-1.4.1.940-574c2fa7-x86_64.exe
Witch is what exactly? And where is this PMP ?
And can it really be true, that please is a MEDIA software for movies, that cant do 5.1 and DTS ??
Did i understand this right???
Thanks ive got it now, tested it, yes now Surround works, 5.1 and DTS and all that good stuff.
The next issue is then the TV mode, is not good, and the normal mode you cannot control with remote, why not?
Is there a way to control the normal mode in PMP with mediia center remote ?
Maybe not, but if you have a phone app you might with that. TV Mode may be better handled if you ‘mirror’ from a phone app. I don’t have a 10’ remote, but the phone app works ok for the purpose.
Also from the phone app, you can control anything under the WiFi - so take it with you to the can and change channels, or media, or music… entertain friends and family.
Look man, I guess this is aimed at the devs, but this is total BS. I’m no purist, I’m no hardcore audiophile, but I recently bought a high end Atmos soundbar and after wasting 3 hours of my life trying to figure out why the “new” Plex app wasn’t playing content in Atmos… seriously what the hell are you lot playing at, I’ll never get that time back. On what conceivable level of sanity would you have a great media player which just did the job, and then release something new… push everyone towards that… only to exclude features that even Windows Films & TV app has???
No, I can’t and shouldn’t go back to the player you told me to migrate from… because if I didn’t have experienced Googling skills which involved excluding thousands of dominant threads from the search results involving Apple TV and Nvidia Shields, I would never have ever found this discussion, how the hell are your customers supposed to find this information? Where was the PSA that said by the way, if you want to actually play audio properly on the high end gear you’ve paid for… don’t do what we’re telling you to do?
Clearly dozens of people before me have kicked off over the past year and it hasn’t made the slightest bit difference so… you do you. Keep at it. You’ve done a great job with this software but just be careful with the stupid decisions, history is littered with examples of what happens when a developer thinks they know best in the face of customer outcries.
Well spoken. +1
