I have many MKV movies on my server that have commentary tracks. Up until the latest release, when I went to change the track on Apple TV it showed the detailed description (Commentary with director Joe Blow, e.g.)of the track below the format (DTS 5.1, AC3 Stereo, etc.) I was disappointed to see that this information is no longer showing. I’ve spent a lot of time remuxing my MKVs with MKVToolnix and putting in detailed descriptions, especially on movies that have multiple commentaries. Is this a permanent change or temporary?
Sorry I cannot reproduce the issue. Can you be more specific about where was that info showing up and now it doesn’t?
Sounds like a bug, and nothing we did on purpose, sorry about that
Older versions had the ability to read the description of the MKV’s metadata.
Here’s the way it looked in version 1.26:
And here it is in 1.27:
Note that you will only notice this on MKVs that have been prepared with descriptions for the audio tracks. I took the time to remux my MKVs with audio commentaries when I discovered that the descriptions would show up on the Apple TV (they do not show up in the web interface.) As you said, hopefully it is a bug that can be fixed.
Thanks for the screenshots! They’re really helpful
Any update on this?
FYI, the stream descriptions are still missing in the latest beta.
Seems like the problem is we started to “share” that code from the iOS app, where we never showed those descriptions.
We’ll probably change the iOS app too to reflect these descriptions, but we didn’t have time to tackle this yet, sorry
So it will be fixed in a future update?
Hi @nookum!
Yes, this will be fixed in a future update, although we haven’t had time to tackle it yet, so we can’t really specify an ETA.
Thanks for understanding and for bringing this to our attention. The issue has been filed internally and we’ll address it at some point.
