I have a video file with a single audio track that is the following:
Stream #0:1(eng): Audio: ac3, 48000 Hz, 5.1(side), fltp, 640 kb/s
I have 2 different Roku’s. One Roku Ultra plugged in to a fairly nice Onkyo sound receiver. Another is a 4k Stick plugged in to a pretty basic Samsung soundbar.
Both sound systems support Dolby ac3 5.1 natively.
When playing on the Ultra/Onkyo, it streams without transcode in Dolby 5.1
On the Stick, it transcodes to aac.
The text in Stream Info → Playback says:
serverDecision: MKV files with AAC audio cannot direct play in Roku OS 10. Server has decided this cannot direct play.
transcode: Selected audio stream is incompatible.
What’s strange is this says Roku OS 10 cannot direct play AAC, but I’m not trying to play AAC. The server is transcoding in to AAC.
How do I figure out why? I know my settings are set to allow Dolby audio in the Roku settings.
BTW, this was the first time I noticed the playback decisioning in the Stream Info area. I love that.
