Audiobook Guide

I really wish this was officially supported.

What are people doing for series and over-arching series that include multiple series? Seems like it’s either use the agent, which I really like for the descriptions, or name albums by series instead of title to group things together but then the agent can’t pull in metadata from audible. So I’m curious if I’m missing anything or what other solutions people are using. I did see the earlier post about someone who grouped by series and manually put in all the metadata but I’m looking to avoid that since it would be very time consuming.

Found a fix for the 90% rule when using Audiobooks on Plex.
For Apple users
Go to the App Store and download
Prologue
It’s an audiobook app that uses your Plex server

Prologue looks absolutely amazing thank you.

Does Prologue need Audiobooks to be sorted & tagged & “meta-ed” on the PMS? or does it use a metadata agent so Plex does not have to?

Does it use any special features for .m4b files? Like chapters?

I just added my audio books to a new folder.
Set Plex to see it as a music folder.
Added the Prologue app to my iPad.
On opening the app it asked for my Plex login details etc.
It was that easy. Plex used it’s music agent for met data.
Prologue app shows chapters etc .
It has worked with our 86GBs of audio books. 100% perfect.
Hope this helps.

Just wanted to let those running Plex on their Shield know:

I managed to install this plugin as well on it. Just copied the ***.bundle folder manually to the correct location.
In my case:

internalStorageLocation\Android\data\com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb\Plex Media Server\Plug-ins

I started setup as described by leosgarza, and, as mentioned in 2.e., I was able to select the agent.

Hope this helps someone.

Thank you for this awesome plugin!

So at this point I am getting ready to get my audiobook library going, My big question is would it be best to do a single huge file or chapter sized files for the book?

I make them no larger than 5 files, depending on the file size I may just make one. I found that anything over 5 files (and making a playlists for any of my audio books) causes the “would you like to resume from…” not work properly (a least on my Android phone).
I use MakeitOne it’s older software but still handles the job and doesn’t effect your original files, just choose a new folder.

I use smart audiobook player for Android for playing audiobooks that I have ripped from CD. If there was a good way to get the books from my Plex server to my phone for it to be able to play them I would be golden. I haven’t found any way to do this as of yet so i contacted the author and he said he would think about adding plex support to his app. Flood him with requests and we might just get a good audiobook player for plex. Smart Audiobook Player

I use Smart Audiobook Player too. Here is how I manage it.

On my PC: Copy the audibook folder to Google Drive (Dropbox, Onedrive, or other would work too)

On my Android phone: Open Google Drive app and download the audiobook folder.

In Smart Audiobook Player: Under Library settings point “Root Folder” to the download folder. For me that’s /storage/emulated/0/Downloaded.

Hope that works for you

edit:
I also use Google Files App to remove the downloaded audiobook from the phone when I’m done.

That would work for some of my books, but I tend to get the longest books I can on Audible and have several that are over 1 gb so those services size limitation will be a factor. What i will probably end up doing is buying a refurbished older iphone to use as if it were an ipod and get the ios app for plex audiobooks. That will work until there is a better option.

Also if you are using smart audio player and google drive i recommend to use drivesync. you can automatically sync certain folders with google drive and your phone. so that way i have all new audiobooks going to one folder synced with my root folder on my phone for offline playback and then all other audiobooks on a non-synced folder for online playback. I travel a lot so having offline playback is crucial to me.

Prologue is the best solutions. Thank you

Plex people: Please support audiobooks properly. I’d like to see author, author picture, narrator, book cover, blurb. It’d also need auto-bookmarks (auto for stop points and manual), with better ‘go back/forward’ buttons on playbar - but then these features would be welcome on all video and audio.

Just recently found this topic and the agent.

What I want to do is add all the Lekturama story books. These are Dutch and consist of 39 books with cassettes… :stuck_out_tongue: (have them on mp3 btw) Each book consists of multiple stories. I have the mp3’s files seperate for each story.

My foldertree is this:
Lekturama > Bookname > mp3 files.
Is there a way to set up the pictures (visible beforehand in Plex) of the stories per mp3 file?
I can add the pictures in the mp3-files of course, but can’t seem to get them visible beforehand. It looks like I have a folder to much for Plex to be able to do that.
It might be a view setting though.

The reason I want to do this is for my 6,5 year old daughter. That she can see the picture of the story and start the story for that one.

I tried putting each file in a seperate folder, but this does nothing. Plex still shows it as if it is in the same folder. I would really want to see the pictures per file.
Back to the drawing board.

cool! no android there?

Prologue is iOS only, check out Chronicle on the Android store. I’ve switched to using that for the last few wakes and has been quite a good experience: https://www.reddit.com/r/ChronicleApp/

Unfortunately, Plex doesn’t show different art for different tracks in the same album.

Just purchased chrocinalapp, lets see :). App was updated yesterday with some updates that prompted me to purchase the item. Note the latest update breaks the book cover view for few minutes as per the developer and it did happen to me. Here is a screenshot of the home page now: https://prnt.sc/sywgqs

You can change the cover view in Chronicle to be square instead of rectangular.
