Auto Convert to HEVC X265

I have 6.9TB worth of content, 3/4 of which is X264 or similar.

I would be great if there was a feature where you can set the server to auto convert all media to the latest file container etc HEVC X265.

This would allow plex users to considerably reduce the drive space taken up and the data would always be in the latest format etc.

There could even be a setting where you limit the conversion to 20% of the cpu or scheduled etc.

Let me know your thoughts…i think it would be a great idea.

From what I understand It’s not a great idea to convert x264 to HEVC as it’s going to impact quality of the video. It’s essentially encoding a file that’s already been encoded. There are probably people that are pretty skilled and can do this effectively but the ones I’ve seen don’t look great. In either case you’d want to use something that specializes in encoding HEVC like handbrake.
