HEVC to x264 poor quality,

Server Version#:current
Player Version#:current

Using web-player h.265 doesn’t play directly so it converts to x264, but the problem is that the video gets jerky. Not because of buffering. It’s not specific to any browser or PC and it has nothing to do with bandwidth, I have more than enough of it both locally and remotely.

Plex is trying to convert HEVC to x264 at the same bitrate, which doesn’t make any sense, of course, but even if I manually select “convert to 20Mbps 1080p”, it doesn’t change anything.
Interestingly, when HEVC file is optimized before watching (which makes the original 5.4mbps file into 8.3mbps x264), it seems like the problem is gone, but it’s terribly inconvenient and I don’t see any reason why it shouldn’t work in real time.

Try different settings under
Settings - Server - Transcoder - ‘Transcoder Quality’
