When Plex Media Player is on the User Selection screen and you connect to it using a companion (i use the android app), it should automatically select the user that just pressed the “Cast” button!
The current behavior is that I need to use either my TV remote or the android’s “remote” mode to select a user before I can fling videos to it. I feel that’s a superfluous step.
