The subject pretty much says it all. As I add more and more 4k content, I noticed that even if I have a 1080p version, if the clients wants 720p, it will try and transcode the 4k content instead of the 1080p file (which would be much easier to transcode).
I know I can just create a 720p version, but if I have a 720p optimized version at 4mpbs, and they request a 2mpbs, it transcodes the 4k file, which makes no sense.
I would rather have 2 copies - 4k and 1080 for the TVs in my house. For mobile and remote viewers, the server can handle a lot of 1080 to 720p transcodes, but only 1 4k transcode, which is why I want it to transcode all lower quality versions from the 1080 optimized file.
Am I missing a setting some where?
Note: I have noticed if you have an optimized version that is either worse or the same as your settings (of the same resolution I think), it will direct play that optimized version, but just not transcode an optimized version if it doesn’t have a version that is worst.
