I’ve been messing with prerolls lately and I came across this site that offers up a Python script to automate changing out prerolls without having to go into settings and manually change the files you want to play.
Has anyone tried this?
I know it’s for Windows, but as Python runs on Macs it should be similar if not identical to get this script working on all servers.
I know there’s a wish list a mile long out there for the preroll feature, so I’ll pile on by asking why this can’t be a feature that can be pulled up the list? I’d love to run a DTS or THX trailer in front of a specific film, or shuffle a selection of seasonal preroll videos (that I have a nice selection of).
So…anyway…if this script is news to everyone, let’s talk about if it’s stable and safe to use and perhaps the Python gurus here can help us and improve upon it.
You can already tell PMS a list of preroll videos you have and a random one will get played. See the bottom of our support article, Extras | Plex Support.
Yeah, well aware of that as that’s how I’m currently shuffling preroll videos.
You might want to view the link I posted as this script gives more freedom to the user to not only shuffle prerolls, but schedule them throughout the year as well—like running Christmas prerolls through December and stopping after Christmas Day, 4th of July prerolls, etc.
Understood, but I was bringing this up to everyone that might not know about it and may want to use it. I’m one of those people as I’m not that skilled in Python and was hoping to start a conversation about any benefits this might have for the community. Kind of like the folks that helped others here with skinning when that was still a thing.
Perhaps the dev team might look into this to see if there’s a better way, natively, to bring this to PMS.
