Autostart NAS from pressing play on UNAVAILABLE video

@markeric All you need is some unique text in a text file, correct? You could take it from there to start the NAS, etc.

What about using Webhooks? It fires off when several actions occur, such as when media playback starts. FYI, Plex Pass required.

Have a local video on the Plex server, put it in a library called “Start the NAS.” When the video is played, the webhook fires, and writes the desired message to the desired file. The video would be long enough to make sure the NAS has time to start.

A pre-roll video might work as well, if webhooks could fire off of that.

WebHooks can be used with home automation to dim the lights, etc, so there might even be a more elegant way to kick things off than just have it write to a text file.

I’m not sure if Plex Media Server would recognize the NFS mounts are available once the NAS starts. You might have to kick off a post “start the nas” video to scan libraries.

I don’t have (and don’t want) a plex pass.

I have already tested my approach with the “Library item 63781 'The ‘Burbs’ got played by account 1” message. But this requires the user to mark the item as played before watching it. My users are family with no computer experience, and it would be so much better if they just pressed PLAY and waited a few minutes.

I can’t understand why there would be so many places in the code needing to print one debug message. What did you grep for to determine 37 places?

I’m probably one of the most accommodating people around here

You want everything for free ?

Please feel free to try another Media Server product.
