So I get that HEVC transcode support will always be a no-go since it requires legal headache, but AV1 is an open standard. Now we are beginning to see AV1 hardware encoding support arrive in CPU’s, and GPU’s. I would be really disappointed if Plex doesn’t make the move to add the option for AV1 transcoding within the next couple years.
Update: I still expect AV1 hardware encoding to come eventually, but with hardware HEVC now added to PMS at least we have better options than AVC.
