I have a quick question regarding backing up Plex server files as I unfortunately need to try a factory reset on my PC annoyingly.
I have backed up appdata in both plex and plex media and also the registry file and prepared the host machine removing the setting as per the guide.
The question - does it also save my users and the shared folders with them and for eg server port info for remote access? Is it a real copy back to original as if nothing happened?
Asking before i take note of all emails addresses and server info before I confirm on reset.
If you back up the registry, then yes. Your shared users are safe.
Make sure to shut down the Plex server when you copy the Plex data folder. Because if you don’t, you’ll end up with a damaged primary database file.
Because then, all you have to do after a Windows reset/reinstallation is to double click the saved registry file and then install Plex server and be done.
For example, on the save path I added a BACKUP folder in my H drive - inside I have a folder called Plex and insinde the copied Plex Media Server data.
So in my case the new string in the reg will be:
H:\BACKUP\PLEX\
Then I save the reg file - and after the reset I import this reg file and and all should be as now?
Sorry - I am assuming, before I reset, and i added the new filepath to the reg and I reboot, i can check if all working properly with the new data on H?
Hello,
Thank you for the heads up on the alternative to move my data to another drive, the process of resetting win10 and adding plex again was easy!
Thank you thank you!!!
