Backing up Meta-data for library transfer

Server Version#: 1.29.2.6364

Hello all. I am transferring my library to a new computer, this will be my 4th time moving, reinstalling or transferring… I have seen many topics on how to do so by diving into the folder directories and copying specific files to be transferred but in these descriptions nothing has ever gone seamlessly and I wind up losing a lot of custom chosen data with the process and it takes me hours if not days to choose all the meta data ie. posters images titles that will go with each movie in my private library.

I would only like to make a suggestion. Can we have a section in the interface to do so with out having to select, copy, move files in a directory, such as selecting types of meta data, library, configurations, copying names etc. Would be great if we could export and then import that configuration into the new install on a different computer. This would save a lot of time and i believe would be a great useful feature. Opinions?

as for guides… go with the original support article:

IIRC there’s a number of feature suggestions touching what you’ve described – ranging from some kind of “migration assistant” to an option to create a package of all files to be transferred. Personally I see the value of such assistants… but it’s not actually that complicated (certainly if you stay in the same host environment (e.g. Windows->Windows, Mac->Mac, Linux->Linux).
