Request 1:
On my Linux system (Ubuntu 18.04) I lost my whole music library recently, while adding two new folders. The new folders were 329 files, 100 Gb and 188 files, 76 Gb in size. This emptied the library, and showed me a blank page. A lot of time and labor spent fixing album art and meta tags was lost. No warnings, no delete confirmations, nothing. Poof! Gone.
I really do not want this to happen again. This server had been running for 2+ years, although almost never used. The point is to use it from outside the home network. Inside the LAN I don’t need it. Now one of my family members is actually using it from a different location. I need a built-in backup and restore tool to recover from crashes of this sort.
Request 2:
I installed Plex on a Windows 7 system so I have redundant streaming capacity. The two servers present the same, identical libraries with quite different appearances. For example, Linux says there are 2903 artists, and Windows says there are 2230. (Foobar 2000 says there are 3339.) Both have album art setting on ‘Local files only’ yet Linux has around 5% of the albums displayed correctly, and Windows has around 95% looking correct.
I want these two servers to synchronize so that the client side experience is exactly the same, regardless of which one is logged into.
There are some other things re: the UI. I would like the defaults to be tweakable, and switchable. I need two lines for album titles. I would switch off the date line to make space. I have multiple versions, tagged with distinct titles — e.g. Kind of Blue (Mono), Kind of Blue (Japan), Kind of Blue (Remaster), Kind of Blue (1st Press Vinyl), etc. At present, all of them are displayed as ‘Kind of Blue’.
Another is, I want classical music, but only classical music to be sorted by Artist rather than Album Artist. I have the composer’s name in the Artist tag, and the performers’ in the Album Artist tag. At present it shows me something like ‘Symphony No. 2’ played by ‘Georg Solti, Chicago Symphony’ — I need it to show me ‘Rachmaninov’ and ‘Symphony No. 2’ instead. I want this sort of thing to be customized. I don’t mind seeing 3 lines of text. Or, it could show me a detailed view of the item on hover.
The Search function also needs to become more thorough. Foobar 2000 always finds many more files than Plex.
