I have a bunch of music files and a lot of them have incorrect tags. While I would like to spend dedicated time to correct all the tags, it’s a very monotonous job and tiring job. I was hoping that PlexAmp could introduce a very basic tag editor so that I could make tag correction a part of my music listening experience. Essentially, anytime some music comes on, and I notice that the tags need correction, I go into an “Edit Tags” option and fix it.
This feature is even more useful because typically it is hard to find the location of the mp3 file that I am playing. The filename is not shown in PlexAmp, and thus, there’s no simple way of heading back to the file you want to fix.
If you’re talking about editing the tags in the file itself (i.e. the original MP3), we’re unlikely to ever implement that, sorry. Our philosophy has always been to avoid touching the original files. There are a multitude of tag editors out there (see e.g. Picard, Beetz, etc) that do a great job of this.
On the other hand, if you’re just talking about editing Plex’s metadata (like you would in Plex Web), this may come in future. It’s not currently on the roadmap, but I imagine the most likely outcome would be that metadata editing comes to Plex Dash. Plexamp is focused on being an excellent music player, I don’t think we want to overburden it with the full suite of library management features as well.
With the ability to add genres to tracks (though I don’t see it yet, just the filtering option ) I would like to emphasize the importance of editing possibilities in PlexAmp.
It should not be necessary to use the web interface for editing:
Moods
Genres
Styles
And the visibility of which the playlist or mood is added to, wouldn’t hurt too.
I might be horribly out if date but from what I understood Plex (and thus plexamp) dont really rely on track level data – it relies on the album level data. So even if you were able to edit the current app still wouldn’t care.
(I say this because the app not caring about track level data is a personal pain point and I have also wanted something like what you suggest in the past)
As there are no Genres (or Styles) per track I thought about the way I want to select tracks for listening for an occasion.
My Plexamp “workflow” to create smart lists / filters is as about as follows:
I modify my Artists and Styles according to the Discogs structure.
In Plexamp I rate tracks with 1 to 5 stars.
When I want some music for an occasion I create a few Rules:
Genre = Classical
Stars >= ****
Mood = Sunday morning
An occasion is - for example - Sunday morning, Late Night, Party, Friends, Relaxed etc.
As I can’t edit / add a Mood to a track in Plexamp it is very tedious as I need to add or edit in the webinterface instead of a mobile device which I more often use.
So, hereby my feature request to make life a bit easier: please add the ability to add or edit Moods in Plexamp.
This would be very useful, if you come across an album/tracks that you think has incorrect or missing tags, as switching to the main plex app/website may be inconvenient if you’re listening to music and want to do a quick edit.
I am using PlexAmp on MacOS (ARM). I like that I can rate songs. A song came on and I wanted to note the BPM of the song. I would like the ability to do basic text edits of id3 fields like this. I understand this may require additional modifications to the PlexAmp service (to handle the writes as the proxy for the apps themselves).
Additionally, it would also be nice to be able to see all the ID3 tag data in the player.
Renewing this request again. This feature seems all the more important with the addition of track genres. I am currently listening through electronic albums and classifying their subgenres, and having to do so through a webui rather than the far more intuitive / convenient PlexAmp platform is really a thorn in my side. Please consider implementing this.
