I know there have been many threads that have asked similar questions however i have yet to really see any answers, so I wanted to see if I could get some community/Plex employee feedback.
I would like everyone’s opinion on the BEST Plex Client given the following:
- Can play/directly pass through Dolby 6.1/7.1/7.2, Dolby Digital, Dolby Atmos, DTS HD
- Can direct play 4k HDR10 and Dolby Vision.
I have a Sony VPL-VW675es paired with a Denon AVR-x3300w and a 7.2 Dolby Atmos setup, so I have the audio and projector to handle my full 4k 7.2 rips. Thank you in advance.
Nvidia shield? Samsung BD player? Anyone?
I would say the best Plex Clients would be, in no particular order:
Plex Media Player
Open Plex Home Theater
Kodi with the Plex for Kodi
add on
And then in the STB category:
An NVIDIA Shield
A newer Roku
Thanks. I have a brand new ROKU premier plus but am suffering from audio hiccups that’s have been written about elsewhere on the forums.
What is Open Plex Home theater?
What are the differences from the official PHT?
Plex Home Theater is a product no longer support by Plex so an outside group took over development of it and now it is called OpenPHT
I’ve been looking at the ODROID-C2
ODROID C2 LibreELEC 7.1.0 HDMI Audio support list:
- Passthrough of AC3/DD/DTS 5.1 (Lossy)
- Passthrough of DD+ (EAC3)
- Passthrough of Dolby True HD 5.1 and 7.1 / ATMOS (Lossless)
- Passthrough of DTS-HD MA/HRA 5.1 and 7.1 (Lossless)
- Passthrough of DTS 96/24
Support h265 10bit but last I read only pushes out 8bit… I think that’s a Kodi(LibreELEC) issue though
It supports HDR but various reports of corruption when playing Dolby Vision
Most the stuff you’re asking about is bleeding edge when it comes to consumer products
