Hi everyone I’m sure this has been asked before but I can’t find it, I’m using the Xbox one for plex. But the Xbox one can’t do hd audio bitstream from third party apps, it just got a preview for the dedicated blu ray player. But nothing for streaming what’s the best player that I can get and use that I can get the hd audio when using plex?
Depends on your criteria.
- Do you have a budget limit?
- Do you want it to be multipurpose or can it be dedicated to Plex only?
My budget would have to be $200 max, just for plex use only since I have an Xbox one and a PS3 for blu rays.
I would load embedded PMP onto an Intel NUC. If you have to have one ASAP, staying within your budget I would get an Intel NUC5PPYH, 2GB RAM and a USB Thumbdrive. That would put you around the $200 mark. If you can wait though and willing to deal with early adoption of new hardware (driver support in LibreELEC) then you can get the new NUC6CAYH. It comes with HDMI-CEC, HDMI2.0, 10Bit HVEC and 4K/60Hz support. Price point should be about the same. The devs over at LibreELEC are working on getting the hardware into the latest builds. Plex guys would need to rebase to it but eventually it would work.
You will be able to direct play practically any file container/format/codec with embedded PMP. Most importantly your need for HD bitstreaming/passthrough is supported.
So this option would be better then the nvidia shield? I currently have a 4tb hd hooked up to my laptop, which I use the to stream to the Xbox.
The Nvidia Shield is a good option.
The trick will be finding one new. They are being phased out for a supposedly new model. Though you can find refurbished units online.
Yes I read about the new version coming out soon, I was thinking of waiting for the release. But I never knew about the option you posted.
I agree with guyen. Nuc is the best quality option.
I was just reading a thread where people were trying to figure out how to get HD audio to work. Seemed to be a driver issue that intel needed to fix. Someone did get it working with Linux. Thoughts?
