Lately I’ve been really getting into building an audiobook collection and using Plexamp for playback.
My current file system structure is:
Media/Music - Audiobooks/AuthorName/BookTitle ( release year)/BookTitle.ext - or chaptername.ext (for multiple files)
Should “release year” be the audiobook recording year or original book date? Should I leave year off entirely like for regular music?
For metadata tags, is “album artist” the original book author and “artist” the narrator?
I prefer chaptered mp3 so I can see the overall content at a glance. Should I convert everything to m4b?
Is there a good audiobook database to use for reference other than MusicBrainz?
Which library view allows me to collapse items behind collections?
But I’ll say Plex isn’t very well suited for audiobooks. As the guide suggests, you’ll need to use the Music library type. Plex added one feature, the “Store track progress” option, with audiobooks in mind, but the feature is only really useful if your audiobooks are in single huge files. If your books are in multiple files, Plex will remember its place in the track you’re playing, but it won’t remember which track that was.
I use it for a fairly large library: Naming I use: %artist%\%album%\%artist% - %album% - %track% of %totaltracks% I make sure that album, artist, track and total tracks along with album art are defined. I use the Plex Music Scanner, and Personal Media Artists agent.
