I’m not sure how much they want to fix it as they don’t want any input from Australians. Plex even asked them if we could have contact to work through the problems with local knowledge for free, they said NO! Don’t know how the hell they plan to do it. They don’t seem to want to engage. I thought Plex pass would entitle me to representation if the guide quality was rubbish. I paid for a full price life pass or I would probably suit back and wait to see if Gracenote even care about Australia. I think Plex have a responsibility to hold Gracenote’s get to the fore but I don’t know I’d Gracenote is getting paid enough. I the best hope is if IceTV can make their guide work with Plex they have a long proven record for reliable data for all of Australia.

And given these issues, an option to simply manually record a channel and time would be good, since you simply can’t record at the moment if the epg is missing or wrong as far as I can see? We’ve definitely got this request on our radar!
@elan if Gracenote took any real interest in Australia and talked to some of us we could help them. How will Plex working on this for us actually get results, do they listen to you in good faith or are the obvious problems ignored. Have they ever fixed a problem with the Australian guide. Have they given any commitments. Appreciate your involvement in the community despite our real frustrations.
Silicondust recently switched to a different Australia EPG provider and their guide data in their HDHomeRunView and Channels App on ATV (using Silicondust EPG) is much better. Wonder if plex creators can contact Silicondust to find out who they are now getting their EPG data from.
Well found the answer. Adding 400 minutes added 20 minutes to the cricket so that must be the limit. That needs fixing because you often have to add a heap of time to the cricket to cover blow outs in time due to weather not being unusual.
yourtv.com.au has a nice api why not use that?
Elan and the rest, as I am “quite” ok with what I get here in Germany, I still sometimes miss out things in the data or channels. But minimal… Having played with xmltv based guides, both self created or bought, I wonder if this is a regional issue in Gracenote or a generic one.
@elan do you need to follow this logic Country->Zip->Provider selection? I think this is a nice easy-to-use-feature and I understand the UX behind this, but what I miss is access to just all channels they have and a way to manually create my lineup/map to my channels here in my environment.
E.g. I use Unitymedia in Frankfurt (local cable provider, where a lot of things seem to be missing from my point of view) and via IPTV Deutsche Telekom Entertain Premium… A way to go “expert” on the mapping and channel selection would be really nice, as this does not change so often.
Missing channels could be added via .xmltv file in such an expert mode and good we are

I’m not smart. I need someone to give step by step instructions
Here is what i have around teh yourtv.com.au api
First off you need to work out your region id:
Returns HTML
Look for section in the page source that show’s regions similar to below
data-region-id=“255”
data-region-name=“Sunshine Coast”
The data-region-id is what you need so mine is 255.
Second URL:
https://www.yourtv.com.au/api/regions/255/channels
Returns Json:
Provides a list of the channels for the region
Third URL
https://www.yourtv.com.au/api/guide/?day=today&timezone=Australia%2FBrisbane&format=json®ion=255
Example data
“shows”: [
{
“id”: 82989428,
“title”: “RBT”,
“slug”: “rbt”,
“programId”: 254997,
“date”: “7:30 PM”
}
To get detail of the airing show use the “shows” “id” in the next url
Returns Json
Provides a list of the shows for the “day” parameter… today for today, otherwise dateformat ddd (mon, tue, wed)
Fourth URL
https://www.yourtv.com.au/api/airings/82699840
Provides airing detail for the show in previous file.
Obviously this is a large file and checking the airing every time you update wouldn’t be a very efficient id. Probably writing a json file to the file system with the data so that you can check that first and lookup if not available.
I’ll probably write some python to do above once the XMLTV import error is resolved in the Beta.
Thanks @SteveTempest but I don’t code not something I have ever been able to learn. Even if you did the above would it return data to enable posters etc to update correctly and seasons to update correctly? I assume if it was easy Gracenote would have the resources to do this and they are the official Plex Guide.
The lack of posters would be due to the tvdb or original feed not providing them. if you look at channel nine’s own guide they dont have posters for every show as they dont exist.
Yes, I just got myself a HDHomeRun Connect and ran into the issue of not having the Wollongong EPG data. Added to that, when I try to use my Shepherd generated XMLTV file, it errors and won’t save.
This leaves me with no guide data as the built in options aren’t a decent match.
@dgaust@outlook.com - yes, same here … still. HDHomeRun matches each channel correctly, but the EPG within PlexDVR (Beta) will not allow the correct match for our region. For example, Channel Eleven is actually 82 in the Illawarra, but the EPG won’t allow selection of it. I keep hearing this is being worked on … For now, my HDHomeRun purchase is a white elephant.
I am getting by using the closest capital city and the main issue is shows around 5pm to 7:30pm the rest of the day usually matches up. Plex are working on a better option for us, they are aware its an issue and want to fix it.
Any news on this (I can’t find a more appropriate place to ask the question). There is still no Wollongong in the EPG list, Canberra’s the best match but it is nowhere near perfect.
There have definitely been some major improvements in the capital city guides, but I’m not 100% sure on regional support yet. Once I’ve got a definitive answer, I’ll jump back in.
www.icetv.com.au/Plex have a paid service. I checked last week and still only capital cities guides for free, IceTV covers all Australian regions and is more accurate although currently you miss a lot of posters but someone is working on fixing this but Plex picks up a lot more info and posters after recording completes and goes into the library. I think IceTV is you only option for quite some time it’s beyond the control of Plex.
The word I’ve heard is that it Gracenote should be providing better data (and I believe regional Australia is included) in the coming months. I can’t give an exact ETA, but I believe support should be coming.
Hmm. Might have to hold back on the Homerun purchase then as I’m also outside the capitals (Newcastle) and not THAT keen on paying an ongoing fee just for epg data.
@Quasar There should now be support for all regions of Australia
