I’ve noticed a few isolated posts about different problems relating to kiwis and the use of the DVR Beta in NZ.
Thought we could have a thread just for kiwis to post their experiences thus far with the beta. What’s working, not working for them etc.
I haven’t installed the beta yet as I don’t want to mess up my current plex server setup and would rather put it on another PC but currently have an HDHomerun.
Is the beta usable for kiwi’s at present? Any suggestions for kiwi’s wanting to maybe switch to it to try it out?
I’m running the Plex DVR beta on a HD home run and the EPG from Gracenote is incomplete. Picks up random shows and movies across TV1 and TV2 with only a few from TV3. Certainly not a complete guide. I then used the Freeview.xml option rather than Gracenote and while Plex then displayed all shows and movies across all channels, it did a terrible job of matching them and often listed “One News at 6” as a movie and other daily shows simply as movies. I ended up swapping back to the Gracenote option for now in the hope that the guide improves. If there’s any other Kiwis who have been able to successfully get the EPG to work in NZ for Plex DVR I would love to know how you did it! Another issue is I am unable to fast forward my recordings when watching on Samsung Plex app and that is so frustrating! But I can see that once all these things get ironed out it will be great, so I’m hanging in there.

Plex has updated it’s latest PMS to incorporate PLEX DVR rather than having a separate build so tried the DVR functions out.
Sad to say I’ve had the same experience as you. It’s borderline useless for kiwi users at the moment.
Right now I can record things just fine and play them back but yes – the EPG data is missing. I don’t have any EPG data for TV1 which is a huge problem! I reached out to Gracenote on the off chance they’ll look in to it.
Also, good idea making a thread for kiwi Plex users!

No problem! Not many on here probably because Plex DVR for kiwis is not the greatest at the moment. Fingers crossed it gets worked out but the EPG data is just not up to scratch IMO and yes TV1 is missing. It is still beta I guess.
I’ve tried using an external XML file as well and that still had tv1 missing for some reason as well.
Good luck getting a response from gracenote - lol you are one of man who have tried getting info from them.
I’ve now gone down the tvheadend route and quite happy with the results so far. Using it on a raspberry pi with my hdhomerun tuner.
Actually looking at plex today it shows tv 1 now. But TVNZ1, TVNZ2 and Three all show as SD channels not HD channels. This mucks things up when you try and record from these channels.
It’d be nice is there was a process to submit missing programs. As part of testing i noticed Shortland st missing, but thats rectified now, but when looking for rmasterchef and britains got talent, they’re both still absent.
Is there a process to talk to gracenote? I’m sure I tried and never had an acknowledgement.
I have been using the DVR for a while and it has been good so far… I have also noticed that the Guide information is quite incomplete.
Where are the settings to change out the guide source? I have seen mention of a Freeview.xml in a couple of posts here… where do I need to go to make these changes to test with?

You would need to delete the DVR then reset it up again and when you get the to the guide screen it has an option to use your own xml file.
Ive only just started using. Quad core, 8 GB RAM on Ubuntu using a hauppauge WinTV-dualHD USB stick with a Synology DS1515+ for storage. Seems to work fairly well - the guide was better stocked that i had thought (plex one).
I would like to know how to:
Change Newshub to “News” (if it is even possible, currently shows as Shows)
Add my own title art (lots of stuff missing)

@simonbnz - as far as i’m aware you cannot change what you are requesting. Gracenote is crap (the providers of the guide info) that plex use. If you running Ubuntu, you should try Tvheadend. Check out this website for more info.
Hey kiwi’s, i’ve started another thread here regarding problems us kiwis are having with plex DVR. It would be great if you could chime in on it so we could get plex to notice and at least acknowledge and look into it. I’ve noticed that they have improved the australian guide data etc as per this announcement so would be great if they could put some love into fixing the NZ plex DVR problems as well.
Ive only recently started using the Plex DVR.
I had the geekzone EPG program outputting XML into my previous DVR software and that worked well. However Plex keeps saying the XML file has issues.
Does anyone know what options need to be enabled/disabled in the Geekzone EPG grabber that will make it work with plex?
Hmm not sure, you’re dvbT based I assume, from what reason? I could post my config. But tbh it’s a bit crap. There’s not enough information in there for plex to identify stuff as shows. So the two options are to use the granvenote epg which has missing shows Britains got talent and Masterchef are both missing still). Or use xmltv where it will have those, but they’ll be a movie. Thee was some info that could be added to the xmltv file to help plex.
Here’s a snapshot of “watch now”. It maybe marginally better but not really much to right home about. You can see that some channels will show “loading”. This happens now and then and the channels can be different that have this issue. Still no resolve on that. All an all the EPG is still pretty crap.
