Summary: Plex displays a network error when not receiving content fast enough, even when it’s because your CPU is too slow to transcode.
I was getting chopping/frozen content when watching content off my NAS recently. The error message I received in client said my network was too slow. I switched from Wifi to Ethernet and was still having an issue so I tore apart my Unifi network and still no fix. I hit the message boards and saw quite a few others with this same error. However, after digging into it turns out that video was being transcoded despite playing native video due to subtitles and the CPU couldn’t handle it.
This error sent me on a wild goose chase. I’m an IT professional and I think an average user would have just given up. I fixed the issue mostly but still have some hiccups and am clueless where to look next.
I understand the error message is being shown on client and the server would need to have to communicate this info so it’s not an easy problem to solve. Perhaps some sort of performance troubleshooter on the server side would be easier to develop.
