I love that Plex now has the ability to search for and add subtitles within the application. This makes total sense and is a great alternative to adding the files directly.
However I feel this search could be vastly improved simply by searching using the metadata Plex already has about a given piece of media, rather than simply the file name.
For those of us not using complete file names, this would be a big improvement. For example, if the file name of an episode in need of subtitles is something like S02E03.mkv, but has all it’s meta data correctly attributed to it thanks to being in correctly named folders, Plex will currently pre-fill the search simply with “S02E03”, which obviously there are a million options for.
Since Plex already knows the Show Episode name/number, why not use that as the basis for the search instead?
