Better support for albums and tracks with multiple artists

Up until the latest release, Plex Web only displays two genres per album or artist, but if you edit the album/artist, you’ll see that it records all that are in the tag.

With the recent changes to the Details pages, Plex Web will now display all genres (still just for albums and artists).

Just throwing my voice in to allow multiple artist support

At the moment I’m resorting to having some artists simply listed as “Artist X & Artist Y”, which often doesn’t match correctly to Musicbrainz who have those artists both seperated out

For instance, I have added a release by two artists today. Artist A is Parasitic Twins and artist B is Victim Unit. I would like their collab to appear under their own individual artist entries, as opposed to a third one being created. Given we have multiple genre support, I assume having multiple artist support would be possible

Throwing my voice in as well, even just being able to see Track Artists would be great.

absolutely mindbending that this thread has been kept alive for five years but hasnt merited a response from a plex employee. this is a basic feature.

Honestly I’ve completely given up on plex devs when it comes to implementing features people actually want. At this point you might as well pray to a random deity of your choosing and they’re just as likely to personally add the feature as the devs are in some reasonable timeframe. I’ve just accepted that when it comes to feature requests like this that have been around for literally years, it’ll happen, if it happens, when it happens; and literally nothing anyone says or complains about will change that in any way. They’re not listening.

Don’t put too much value on “merit[ing] a response from a plex employee” either. I’ve been in numerous feature request threads that have been around for years, and for the most part, they all lack any kind of feedback from the team saying they’re working on it or looking into it. But when I do see responses, they’re quite often in the spirit of “Why would anyone need that? Just do <some workaround that doesn’t actually solve the issue>.”.

I mean for god’s sake, look at Plexamp, which on its home page is advertised as "A beautiful Plex music player for audiophiles . . . ", and yet despite the constant barrage of people asking for bit-perfect playback support, they’ve openly stated that it’s flat out “not a priority”.

But at least we have ad-supported movies and Tidal integration

This is absolutely a must add feature. It’s been five years. All I want to do is have Madvillain, Madlib, and MF Doom tied to Madvillainy. I want Kids See Ghosts, Kanye West and Kid Cudi tied to Kids See Ghosts. I don’t understand how this hasn’t been implemented yet. It’s such an easy addition and would make my experience using Plexamp much better.

Oh, I forgot all about this. I moved to Roon. Roon has this feature. lmao

All I want is to be able to view my music library by Artist or by Album Artist.
I just want the option to select either one depending on what I want to see at the time.
On Desktop and especially in the Plexamp mobile app!

Hi
Have do you solve this? Are you just renameing the folder so it only have one artist or is there a better way?
Best Regards
Janus

As far as I know they’re is no good solution

  • Either a messy library
  • Or copy the album on two places, but that would cost a lot of space in the future
  • Or putting the album under one of the two artist, instead of both

So in my library it looks a bit like this, which is not great haha

Most of us use MP3Tag to edit music. Why Plex don’t follow these perfect guidelines of MP3Tag.
If the NULL separator is used, artists will be correctly organized.

If not (‘with’, ‘feat.’, ‘&’, ‘duet with’…)… BY THE WAY It is up to the user’s hand to follow naming convention for music.
We have to follow a naming convention for movies and series, I don’t understand why we can’t do it for music.

Please please please please please please please please add this functionality. I have so many albums that should show up under multiple Artists. This one thing would allow me to organize things the way I’d really like to. This thread has been active since 2015? Now’s the time! Plexamp is badass. This would make it amazing.
