Plex should be designed like this, similar to how directors, producers, and actors are showcased in movie libraries. Artists should also be represented as tags, supporting multiple individuals and linking to their respective artist pages.

Most basic feature. My whole library exists of mixtapes by multiple artists.
It is really unacceptable that this feature request (its really a BUG FIX) is still not addressed in any way
I am pretty much ready to move on from Plex entirely due to this issue and the dev team’s inability to not even reapond after TEN years
With PLEXAMP getting a TON of love, perhaps we can revisit this bug fix? I keep on saying that if PLEXAMP would be able to understand that more than one artist can exist on a track, I wouldn’t need Spotify anymore. I’d even help pay a bounty for this - that is how needed I believe this is.
Would love to have this feature
+1 for me!

I am in the same boat.
+1, voting this feature
Also voting this feature.
Yes this so beyond frustrating for an otherwise amazing offering. Please tackle this one !

Don’t think the chances are looking good, as it has been NINE YEARS, but I voted anyway.

This would delight me.
Yet another bump after a reddit post reminded me of this decade old request.
Another bump as I bought a track that has multiple artists that select just fine on Spotify, yet after a decade we are still missing this basic feature.
I just discovered that Amp supports tracks with multiple artists (in a way), but it seems like Plex clients on all platforms don’t support this. Since Amp does, why doesn’t Plex?
Bumping this again. Still no acknowledgement from plex, inc that a track can have multiple artists.
+1 For this!!!
As an avid collector of EDM music, I have a significant number of tracks that feature multiple artists and collaborations between DJs. However, I’ve encountered an issue with how Plex handles these tracks. Currently, Plex creates an artist entry based on the “album artist” metadata, which often results in awkward artist listings like “Artist 1, Artist 2” or similar variants. This approach doesn’t work well for EDM music, where singles and releases are more common than full albums, and the “album artist” field typically includes all collaborating artists.
Additionally, I have compilation albums, which feature multiple artists across the entire CD. While I tag these albums correctly as “Various Artists” for the album artist, it would be incredibly beneficial if Plex could take the tagged data from the individual artist(s) field and list each song under the respective artists in the library.
Here’s a detailed explanation of the issue:
1. Multiple Artists Handling: When a song features multiple artists, Plex treats the entire “album artist” string as a single artist, leading to an unrecognized and often unmanageable list of “artists” on the home screen.
2. Metadata Limitations: Despite experimenting with various metadata tags and artist separators, there hasn’t been an effective solution. My current workaround involves altering the metadata to list only one artist under “album artist”, but this compromises the integrity of the library. It correctly categorizes the song under one artist but fails to list it under any of the other collaborating artists.
Feature Request: What I propose is an enhancement to Plex’s music handling capabilities, specifically designed to recognize and appropriately categorize tracks featuring multiple artists. Ideally, Plex should:
Recognize Multiple Artists: Allow the “album artist” or other relevant metadata fields to include multiple artists and intelligently split them based off separators ( , ; Ft. Feat.) or intelligently through online metadata management.
List Tracks Under Each Artist: Ensure that tracks featuring multiple artists appear under each individual artist’s listing in the library.
Compilation Albums: For albums tagged as “Various Artists,” Plex should use the individual artist(s) field for each track to list the songs under the appropriate artist(s) in the library.
Implementing this feature would significantly improve the organization and usability of EDM collections on Plex, ensuring that tracks are accurately categorized and easily accessible under each contributing artist.
I look forward to the update soon but looks like this has been a request for 5+ years. This would honestly make Plex Music superior to any other similar product
You know what would be nice?
An option to flag something as a Single, Album, Compilation, Soundtrack etc…
Both myself and friends have albums being incorrectly flagged as compilations and Plex completely ignores the “Compilation” metadata tag.
How about implementing an option on the “edit” box for those that have the time and patience to do so manually?
