Better support for albums and tracks with multiple artists

:man_shrugging:t2:

Any chance to get this implemented?

Amen, I don’t mind Various artist, but I’d prefer to have a selection of artist so that I can find the song searching any of the artists that collab’ed.

Another bump - trying to get Plex, inc to acknowledge this. Plexamp would replace my spotify account once plex, inc acknowledges that one track can have more than one artist.

Crazy idea, I know. More than one artist existing on a song. What record label would even allow that?

I see we are now adding logical features that have been requested 5+ years ago, any way we can get to a feature request that has been on the table for almost 9 years?

Or are zero milestone payments for plex, inc dependent on understanding that there can be more than one artist per track?

I see Plex, inc is now looking at requests from 2015 - why not look at this one too?

It looks like there are no plans for development of Music Library. I hope I’m wrong.

Look at the audiobooks thread. It looks like there may be database changes next year giving them more flexibility to enable these types of requests.

Been a plex user for a decade, I’m hoping they pivot from putting their resources into all these discovery/social features (does anyone actually want/use them?) to the core media management features that so many of us want and use (like this one!)

For me for music, this is a deal breaker. Half my albums are compilations. Half artists do not have a standalone album. +1

Does this mean Artists as well? Are we close to closing out this request from 2015? Has Plex, inc finally realized that there can be more than one artist per track?

This is really necessary! I don’t want to duplicate albums to associate them with two or more artists. At the moment I sacrifice the next ones and I associate them only to the first of the list or the most famous one. Why hasn’t this function been introduced yet? How many more requests are you waiting for?

Discovery, yes. Most people will want that because the biggest gripe about streaming platforms is not knowing what movie is on which streaming platform at that moment, such is the nature of licencing. But the rest… meh, get that team fixing stuff like supporting multiple artists on an album. I will be damned if Plex continues to ignore Lisa Gerrard’s contribution to the Gladiator soundtrack.

I wonder with the forced opt-out sharing of media emails that Plex, inc has made into corporate goals from the CEO personally: I wonder if plex, inc can tack this request on to accurately share music?

If Keith Valory (CEO) is forcing users to share their viewing history due to Keith wanting to turn Plex into a social network, perhaps Keith would bless us with accurately showing artists after 9 years.

Now that Plex, inc is getting a milestone payment for finally opening their tv/movie store (feature none of us asked for), perhaps plex, inc can finally learn and understand that songs can have more than one artists per track. I do hope that plex, inc understands that it can never, ever open a music store without understanding that a music track can have more than one artist.

It’s been 9 years, plex. Spoify understood this in 2010. iTunes understood this in 2002. Strange plex, inc can’t understand this - or even acknowledge this request.

Curious if you stayed with Roon after trialling it? Personally, I thought plexamp was superior and more responsive BUT i do absolutely yearn for the Multi artist support now that i saw how well integrated it is on Roon. Would do so much for my music discovery.

With Plex’s latest $40M investment, perhaps a plex, inc employee can expense a spotify account to understand that a track of music can have more than one artist.

The ONLY thing keeping me from using plexamp full time is this failure of understanding.

Again, look at this for an example. I hope with the latest $40M round of funding, plex, inc employees are allowed to look at this thread: Better support for albums and tracks with multiple artists - #133 by mightydh

Bumping this again.

Perhaps with a MVP with getting Rentals off the ground, there is a milestone payment that can be applied with a decade old feature request?

Perhaps with updating PMS-Beta with Support ID3v2.4 null-separated tags for genres and release type (#14653), we can apply some resources to this decade old request? Plex Media Server - #610 by drzoidberg33

My main software for music is still Plexamp. I always test Roon a few months a year (Black Friday: 3 months for $3) and I’m always amazed at the wonderful linking of all kinds of metadata, which works much better than with Plex. Albums with more than one artist is not a challenge for Roon, but normality…
I haven’t bought a license yet (no rental, but lifetime, I hate subscriptions in the software sector). After the takeover by Karman, the development of Roon is fortunately making progress again. It now also works again when the Internet is down again and you just want to play your local music…
It’s probably only a matter of time before I buy - at the moment Plexamp is clearly ahead of ARC. If only Plex could handle metadata better!
