Better syncing options

Instead if low, medium, high and highest, it would be better if there was shown as resolutions i.e. simply have it has 1080p, 720p, 576p, and 480p. (Don’t know what the resolution is for low as I never use it. But I know it’s lower than 480p)

I suggest this cause recently the transcoder seem inconsistent in what it’s converting files too. I would like a more strict/clear cut approach. This would also my apply to cloud sync option.

Also if we could select what seasons to sync when syncing a whole shows. So we can says sync season 1, 2 and 3. Then later we can remove season 1, leaving season 2 and 3 synced.

Oh and an option to burn In subtitles when transcoding.

I would take this even further....  Have a setting that just direct copies the file, regardless of resolution.  This would then require no transcoding at all, and for servers that are transcode limited, would allow for syncing without the long waits/broken syncs.

Been hoping for this for a while.

Yeah you could have an additional setting as native/direct sync so it keeps let's say 5.1 audio as well as 2 channel. At the moment highest quality seems to remove the 5.1 track.

Transcoder is all over the place at the minutes

Syncing in general could use a ton of improvements, but I like this suggestion quite a bit. Voting.

Direct Sync would be fantastic. As it is, I have to run a separate server instance on a beefy machine for syncing. I don't mind doing that for remote streaming, but it's overkill for syncing, where all I really want is a convenient (and library-aware) file copy.

THIS!

Looks like they did this!! Yay. Do I get a prize lol?

So much this

I wish they had implemented Mike’s option. Now it’s needlessly complex when I don’t want my file transcoded at all!

The iOS process for setting up syncing is a PITA.

You can direct sync. All you do now is select the highest bit rate. 20mpbs 1080p. Does anyone have a file over 20mbps?!

There are quite a number of people that have direct BR rips with 20Mbps + and up to 32Mbps in some cases.

But, having said that… Most of the clients can only support 20Mbps, so they are limited in the stream size from the client side.

And with the new Optimize Media feature, this is almost a moot point. We can now pre-stage media in streaming any situation our clients may encounter. ~~The only thing I’m not sure about is, does optimized media get used during a sync request? Or is it always the original file that gets transcoded as part of the sync process?

I’m going to be doing some test of this to see what’s happening.~~

EDIT: Ok, just got done testing this with a file that I had already optimized. I selected a 4Mbps 720p sync setting. This corresponded to the settings I had for the media that had been optimized. I got the media that was already optimized, and not the original file. Confirming this as there was no reporting of the transcoding of the media, file transfer started almost instantly to my tablet.

While I was syncing the media, the optimizing of other items in my library was put on hold. Even though there were no transcoding sessions taking place for sync. Now here’s the interesting thing: When the sync completed, sync now on my tablet, and it shows the server transcoding media that is being optimized. It flashes on and off, but the optimizing does show up there.

This is good news, both for syncing and for streaming in low bandwidth situations. I’m liking this feature more and more as I mess with it.

This thread is a little older and it looks like they have implemented this at least on Android, where I can not only select different resolutions and bitrates, but also “Original” to get a direct copy.

However, this is not implemented on PMS/Web. If you start your sync from there, you get the same old non-informative Low, Medium, High, Very High settings.

Please give us the same options in PMS/Web as we have in Android.

Thanks

It has been updated with the 9.14.x update.

Awesome, thank you!
