Better video support on photo libraries

Hi I have been using the photo library feature in Plex for a while now as a family archive to share with friends. I have 2 problems with the current implementation of photo libraries that may be nice to see, or honestly a new type of library that just supports all types of home media (video, photo, audio).

The video support is lacking. When you click on a video for most platforms, it shows up as if it’s a picture with no menu options like quality settings of rewind fast-forward.

There is no mp3 support which for a photo archive is ok but it seems like it wouldn’t hurt anyone to add it. I have several mp3 files in my archive with more to come that I cannot play unless I convert them to an MP4 which doesn’t make any sense.

Mod-Edit:
Focusing this thread on the improvement described in your 2nd post (lack of video controls in a photo library using the Fire TV client). Please refer to the duplicate/existing threads for the remaining scope.

Let’s start with the (hopefully) simple ones:

  1. Plex is perfectly capable to handle mp3 files in a music library. No need to rename them for that.
  2. On what platforms do you experience the lack of controls for videos in photo libraries? I’ve just checked this on Plex Web and Plex for iOS and they seem to be showing/playing basically as in any regular video library

As for your other request… there’s already existing requests to improve the handling of videos in a photo library as well as mixed-media libraries. I suggest you comment/vote in those to avoid distracting/dispersing votes (hence the request to search before posting duplicate suggestions).

Hi, thanks for responding. For the limited controls the main platform I have been having this problem on is firetv. When you play videos they show up with the same “photo” slideshow interface instead of the normal video interface. This didn’t seem to be a problem on a Samsung tv that I tried
