Black screen on Window Player

Server Version#: 1.32.0.6973-a787c5a8e
Player Version#: 1.67.2.3705-db506a00
Operation System#: Win10 22H2

My Linux/Docker based Plex Server and the full media info is showing in my fresh installed Plex Player but: When trying to play one of the films I get a black screen. The timeline shows no progress (played seconds keep the same value) .

Monitoring by Tautulli shows: Everything o.k and a running time.

  • Stream: Direct Play
  • Container: Direct Play (MP4)
  • Video: Direct Play (HEVC 720p)
  • Audio: Direct Play (Deutsch - AC3 5.1)
  • Location: LAN:
 IP

If I use the WEB-Interface video is showing, but transcoder starts :frowning:

Can we get the plex media info xml for the file that does that. or possibly a sample file

Does this computer have only an integrated graphics instead of a separate GPU?

Yes! This computer has integrated Intel HD Graphics 4600 on a Core i7 4790K CPU

and this is the difference to the notebook used by my grand son where everything runs smooth even with remote access.

But using i.e. VLC to play gives no problem.

Settings - ‘Show Advanced’ - Plex for Windows - Player - “Video Playback Quality”
Set this to “Low” or “Normal”, with and without the ANGLE renderer.
Do also toggle the “Hardware Decoding” checkbox below and test again.

THX!
But I only find “Plex for Windows” - “QualitĂ€t” and there are no “Normal”, “Hardware Decoding” options. See screenshot

Go to “Player”/“WiedergabegerĂ€t”

o.k. found it:

Solution is:

  1. Disable “Hardware Decoding” → all streams are running with “Direct Play”
  2. !! Restart !! Plex App!
one has to wait some seconds before restarting!!

It’s independent of Video Playback Quality settings.

Thanks for your advice!
