Black screen with audio when trying to play a video only with the Windows Player

Server Version: 1.32.7.7621 (Ubuntu)
Player Version: 1.79.1.3984-879339ed (also tried with the latest version, i downgraded to 1.79 because i thought this could be related to New plex player broken (1.80.2.4006-b40ed11c) - #34 by ababcock)

The Plex player for Windows has stopped working for seemingly no reason for me in the last few days. Everything works fine using my browser (Vivaldi) or the app on my phone (Android), only the Windows player is not working, so it’s not an issue with the server.

The issue is that every time i try to watch something, i get audio but no video (nor subtitles), everything is just pitch black.

I tried playing multiple videos, from different libraries, even different servers. I always use original quality, so it’s not a transcoding issue, tho i did also try switching to a different quality and the same issue was there. Also tried turning off and on subtitles or changing them to a different file, to no avail. Both fullscreen and windowed modes don’t work.

My PC is running Windows 11 22H2 (build 22621.2428), and i have a RTX 3080 (with up to date drivers), and a Ryzen 5 3600 CPU. I have 3 monitors: a 1080p60Hz one, a 1080p144Hz one and a 1440p144Hz one (which is the one i usually use with Plex)

UPDATE: disabling fullscreen optimization on the Plex executable file (right click on it, properties, compatibility tab) seems to have fixed it. I don’t know why it worked before and stopped working, but at least i got it working back

Interesting, but unfortunately that didn’t work for me. Plex Windows app simply refuses to play video and gives a black screen with audio.

I’m using HTPC on windows 11 using a 3080 and on Fullscreen I’ll have 5 - 7 seconds of video and sound then it will turn black for 2 seconds and i’ll get video back but no audio. Not sure what’s going on

Same problem here on both my displays and with all display modes. Interestingly, the video thumbnails display when scrubbing along the timeline. Since this behavior all versions of the player suffer from no video. I have a windows 10 box that does not suffer from this behavior and the osX machines all work fine.

Interestingly, the video playback works flawlessly in the web client but still fails to display in the native client.
