when using plex mobile (and desktop for that matter), it seems that plex does not grab the music controls of that OS. in android, when attempting to use music controls with a bluetooth headset, the controls (play, back, forward) just don’t work. this is also true for the windows client.
moreover, I noticed that despite being the main player playing music, in android the plex player is usually the third or fourth in the list (android 12).
this is elementary for a paid app… and I noticed that this issue was documented again and again in the past years, but remained unsolved…
is there a fix on the way? or anything that could be done to resolve this?
Folks from Plex, can you please get simple play/pause to work with bluetooth headsets in the Plex app on Android? If not, can you please at least explain why you cannot get this really basic functionality to work?
I just purchased a Samsumg S7 FE 12.4" just to watch plex with Bluetooth headphones. No play/pause controls is a but of a show stopper for me.
FWIW, bluetooth controls from my Pixel Buds works great with Plexamp
Yes, and play controls work on iOS too for both apps, so clearly the folks at plex know how to implement it. Why they would choose not to implement such a basic feature is what we are here to find out.
What version of Android does that device have? I notice that BT does work for audio but not videos on Android 12. Seems ok for both audio and video for Android 11 and earlier.
I’m using a Samsung S7 FE 12.4" tablet with Android 12. BT play/pause works for Kodi and the built in apps. Just not with Plex or PlexAmp. I actually hadn’t tried PlexAmp in this new tablet until today. Pause works, but not Play. I use Sony - WF-1000XM4 headphones (earbuds).
Plex: Video: Play/Pause does not work
Plex: Music:, PlexAmp: Pause works, Play does not work as expected. I pause the music, the wait a few seconds and tap the play button on the headphones and nothing happens. I tap again, and the the music starts. This is not a double tab. If I double tap, the music advances to the next song
Kodi: Play/Pause works for video and music. Also Foobar2000 and PlayerPro work as expected.
It certainly appears as if this is a plex/plexamp issue. Hopefully with a little test on your part, you can reproduce the issue is resolve it. Please keep us posted as we really appreciate the updates. Also, if you need any additional testing, please let us know.
