Server Version#: 1.26.2.5797
Player Version#: 9.3.0.32977
Similar to previously reported and never resolved Player controls don't show up in notification bar, and Bluetooth controls don't work.
Bluetooth media controls (play/pause) do not work >90% of the time using 2 different bluetooth headsets (Boltune BT-BH0001 and Sony WH-1000XM3) in the Plex Android mobile app. Both devices flawlessly control Audible, YouTube, Spotify and YT Music.

Are you running Android 11 or 12 by any chance?
Figured as much. See if the play/pause controls on your notification screen mysteriously disappear at the same time bluetooth controls aren’t working. If they do, it’s the same problem.
They do disappear for Plex but not for any other app, including PlexAmp
Yup, same thing then. Pretty incredible that this was introduced with Android 11, hasn’t been fixed or even acknowledged yet, and Android 12 is out now. The moment another comparable product runs on my NAS, or I get a different NAS that can run something already existing, I’m out.
Hey Plex team. I’m happy to capture and upload any debug data to help troubleshoot. I can grab Android bug reports and Plex app debugs. Just let me know if this is a known issue or if you need more data to fix it.

I do have the exact same issue, 4 different phones (Pixel 4a 5G, Samsung Galaxy S8, Pixel 6 Pro and Essential Phone PH-1). Also, when this happens, car controls stop working, even the app in android auto stops working (2 different cars, any combination of cars/phones). This seems like a very common issue that has been here for at least 1 year with not acknowledgement from Plex. I’ve paid to register the app and can’t use it because of this issue.
@anon18523487 can you let me know what else to do to help troubleshoot this issue or get a confirmation that the Plex team is aware of the issue?
Checking in on this thread again to see if I can provide debug logs.
Would you be able to replicate the issue and then grab the logs from Plex for Android? Steps for fetching the logs are available here; Android, Android TV, Fire TV, Portal Logs | Plex Support
Do you have a rough idea on how long it usually takes for the bluetooth controls to stop working / notification controls to disappear?
I’ve got the logs and will share them with you via DM. With the current version, none of the bluetooth controls are working now.
It looks like Plex isn’t the only app impacted by the Android 12 media player control changes. MX Player has a similar problem.
@sixones How did your team solve this for PlexAmp? Bluetooth media controls work just fine in PlexAmp. I’ve put the PlexAmp logs in the same share.
@sixones I just uploaded another debug where I was able to pause with Bluetooth.
Hey @sixones. I’m checking in to see if you were able to gather what you needed from the log files. I have shared a few log files in that same folder, 1 not working, 2 working in the last few minutes of the log and 1 from PlexAmp showing Bluetooth controls working perfectly. Thanks for any updates you can share.
Good morning @sixones. Were you able to access the log files and find the relevant issue?
Hey @sixones, it’s been about six weeks since I was able to share the debug logs. Has the team been able to determine the fix for bluetooth controls?
I don’t think @sixones is avaialble at the moment but will check to see if he got your logs.
@BigWheel Did he get the logs?
Good morning @sixones and @BigWheel. Checking to see if I can provide any additional troubleshooting or logs. The problem still occurs, though it seems like I’m getting more successes, there’s nothing (yet) consistent.
