For Classical music, I need to be able to browse by composer
I have quite some classical music in iTunes, and my collection is growing. Not being able to browse this part of my library by composer is a major handicap in plex.
Am I really the only one to listen to classical music on this forum? o,O

but I tend to keep everything in playlists in iTunes so this hasnāt been an issue for me so far-- also, I just started using Plex to listen to music with the Bonjour magic released in 0.8.5, since my iTunes library is on my laptop.
But Iāll add my +1 for this. If we had it, Iād use it.
I have the same thing. My iTunes is on my laptop, and I run Plex Media Server on there, and stream the music.

hmmmā¦ here tooā¦ My son installed Plex on to our Mac Mini which lives next to our TV. Plex is great for watching movies. Unfortunately it is useless for classical music loversā¦
Please, please, pleaseā¦ arange an option to select composers (you know, guys like Mozart, Beethoven and stuff. Of every composer there are dozens of performances of different orchestraāsā¦ ā classical music needs another aproach than just albums and artists!!!) Just do it like FrontRow for starters (but better of course with the option to select the first character āTā without having to scroll to Tchaikowsky). You can leave out Genre or things like that as far as I am concerned 
The moment composer selection is implemented is the moment I can leave frontrow.

Iāve been requesting this for quite some time. It would really be a huge improvement for me.
Canāt believe that itās either that weird a request, or that itās that there are so few of us who would like to see it implemented. I wonder if thereās a time when a feature request hits the ācritical massā threshold?
Please, please, please could we have a search by Composer. Iām stuck having to use both Front Row and Plex as Front Row wonāt play back my movies with AC3 encoding (perian is installed etc just get a helicopter noise instead of an audio track) but Plex will, but Front Row happily lets me browse my music collection by Composer whilst Plex wonāt.

You can add my name to the list of those needing this feature. For classical it is essential; if itās not there, I canāt use Plex.
Because of the exit of Front Row in Lion I am switching to Plex. I discovered that Plex is working with iTunes. But I really do miss sorting by Composer. A lot of my music consists of classical music. So I hope that this can be added.
They are not interested in adding any classical music support. This has been covered many times.
This is not just a āclassical musicā issue. Bob Dylan is also a composer as is Miles Davis etc.
In any caseā¦ how can a serious music player be without a ābrowse by composerā?
Think about itā¦ Bach, Beethovenā¦ Mozartā¦ the great figures of music of all time and we can only get at them indirectly.
I would love to browse to Bach and see everything I have by that composer when deciding what to play!
I feel this is a major item missing from the music library.
i never use the composer tag, i put the composers in the artist tag, and i put the performer in the album title.
f.ex. FrƩderic Chopin - Sonatas (Vladimir Ashkenazy)
sorts the mess for good, because then i have everything in the artist list.
But then you can't search by Album title properly.
Search by Composer is definately needed so that those of us with large collections of classical music (and other types of music) can use the system properly.
It's still not implemented, which is a shame. Please, Plex people, this is a must have for us classical music guys. It can't be true that only Apple knows how to do that.

Even the Synology music app for iOS can already do this.
Since 2009 and this feature has not been implemented?!? Ā I like what I have seen of Plex so far but this lack of responsiveness is pretty surprising.
This is a disgrace. Sorry but it must be said. Here goes my plans of having a media center for my local media (FLACs and home videos too). Any other solutions out there ? (Maybe better go for a more expensive proprietary solution).

Yeah, can't believe it too.
I stopped hoping for an implementation some time ago (asked numerous times!) and gave up on Plex completely.
Fortunately my NAS comes with music apps for almost all relevant devices (Synology). They implement user suggesstions quite fast. Browsing by composer is possible since months now. Awesome software. But you need a Synology NAS, of course.
