Hi ,
I’ve been testing the HEVC video encoding feature in Plex and noticed something odd. When I enable it and select my Intel Arc A310 LP as the hardware transcoding device, everything works great on the local network — smooth playback at different bitrates, no buffering at all.
However, when I try to stream remotely, playback starts buffering after a few minutes, even at lower bitrates. If I switch the hardware transcoder device setting to Auto or use my iGPU, remote playback works flawlessly.
Details:
- Upload speed: 21 Mbps (set in Plex)
- OS: Windows 11
- Plex Media Server: Latest version installed
- GPU Driver: Latest Intel Arc driver installed
It seems like the PMS isn’t properly respecting the remote streaming bandwidth limit or something’s going wrong with its handling of remote transcoding.
Has anyone run into this issue with Intel Arc cards or have suggestions for troubleshooting? I’d really like to use the A310 LP for its efficiency, but this remote playback problem is a blocker.
Thanks in advance!
